Did anyone feel vague?
Hi all
I'm on day 16 and feeling odd. Physically, I feel better and just starting to sleep better too.
For the past couple of days I've just been feeling odd, very vague. I start talking then get words mixed up or forget what I was about to say. I don't feel depressed or anxious, quite the opposite, feel calm, very calm, almost too calm, well for me anyway. Feel a bit numb, almost as if I've taken a sedative, which I haven't.
Sorry probably sounds odd.Just wondered if anyone else had this 2-3 weeks in and when did it go?

Yeah i feel this way alot too and then at times run around feeling "busy" but not really sure what I'm doing, lol. I think that planning the day the night before might help but I haven't gotten around to doing that yet. I keep waking up in the morning thinking that I had plans but not really sure exactly which I should be doing lol.
It just takes a long time for the body/brain to put it all back together but it still feels 1000x better than the alternative.

In the begining of sobriety we all had different symptoms, you can google PAWS Post Acute Withdrawl Smptoms and you will find knowledge of some symptoms. I don't know what drugs you did but just remember to stay in today no matter how you feel or think. I had to say the serenity prayer several times in a row, a couple of times about 50 times, sounds bad but guess what, it was better saying that than picking up the first one and starting the process over again.
Sobriety may feel tough at first and that voice may want you to give up but today we can live a sober and wonderful life, remember you are powerless over the first drink but not powerless over the thought. If that thought comes play the tape out, call somebody, PRAY, PRAY, and PRAY some more, just keep telling on yourself, expose that thought, it only has power if we keep it to ourselves!!! If you go to meetings kick it up a notch, if you don't maybe you can start, either way don't listen to that voice!!!
Just use half the effort you used when you were drinking/drugging towards your sobriety, you will be amazed before you are halway through it!!!! Keep posting and asking for help.
God Bless and I will pray for you!!!!

jhe...I am almost a year and still have days like this. But, they are less and less frequent, and less and less severe.
Hang in there. I think this is where the step work really comes in handy, if you are AA minded.

I still have that at 14 months. I figure it's all the alcohol and weed I've ingested. It takes time to really heal well. It's why I read about these people feeling "normal" at 5 days. Keep staying stopped! It keeps getting better!

Yep, I've experienced that too. A sense of not really knowing what's going on... moving and doing things but not really being 'in the moment', a sense that I'm watching myself live rather than living it. It happened much more at the beginning, and now only happens every now and again... can't remember the last time it happened. For a good few weeks that was my normal state, though! Keep going... it'll pass and congrats on your sober time thus far!

In my own case, it was really important for me to learn about PAWS, which is Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome.
There were all kinds of things that happened when I stopped drinking/using that I didn't understand until I read these articles. They have helped to make a very big difference in my journey through recovery.
Some of the main symptoms of PAWS include:
1. Inability to think clearly
2. Memory problems
3. Emotional overreactions or numbness
4. Sleep disturbances
5. Physical coordination problems
6. Stress sensitivity
If you're experiencing any of these or know someone that is, I cannot recommend reading up on this enough.

Strange feeling/sensation, isn't it? Still get that at six months. Every sober day is better than a drunk/hungover day. Healing takes time. We didn't get this way overnight, but we are getting better and better day by day! Keep it going - you're doing great!

I suppose it affects people in different ways, depending on various factors. So glad it's not just me. I was worried it was part of the aging process!
thanks for all your responses
KnowHope,
Thanks for the PAWS information. I just finished reading it. I experience rigid repetitive thinking at times, which is a big problem if it happens at bed time. I also noted the nutrition information - excellent information - many thanks!
