You Won't Believe This

I broke my right wrist on July 4th,
so I go to the ortho doc. tomorrow.
Back on pain pills to deal with the
short term pain.

Maybe once they can set it right and
do the surgery and it starts healing
I won't need them, but right now I
do.

I am thinking of ways to not let myself
become dependent on them again.

I know I will have to go through
withdrawals again, but it shouldn't
be as bad as before, because I
plan to only be on them for a month
or less.

I was doing so good and enjoying my
sober living.

No, haven't spoken to him yet
as I go to him the first time
tomorrow. Then I will find out
if I need surgery to set it.

Apart of me is afraid they won't
give me anything for the pain,
and the pain is unbearable.

So am unsure if I should tell
the doc, but then again, I would
feel like I was being dishonest.

Does that make sense?

What have others done in my place?

There is drug use and drug abuse. Tell your Dr you want to do the right thing.

I tell my doctor what I am addicted to, and they prescribe something else that won't put me in jeopardy of relapse.

I'm sorry for your wrist Crisy - hope it heals with a minimum of fuss.

There's no doubt in my mind tho that the right thing to do is be honest with your Dr about your addictive history when you see him or her tomorrow

So sorry Chrisy - I know what that's like. I broke my wrist a few years ago (not a good thing for an artist). I didn't have to have surgery, though. I took pains meds for a few days but once it was set, I really didn't have a lot of pain). It was actually worse once I got out of the cast.

I hope you can work things out so that it doesn't create a problem for you. Good luck!

Maybe you could try to really tough it out? I know it sounds harsh but my friend has broken his right foot 2 times and he never once took opiates/opioids for it. He told me the reason he won't is because he's afraid he would get hooked on them.

I personally think he would. He is an alcoholic and is very much in denial about it. Actually, we're not even friends anymore because he started becoming very angry and argumentative, of course because of the Booz. I miss my old friend.

But I hope you don't get hooked on pain pills again! I know how bad opioid withdrawals are and I'd never want to deal with them ever again in my lifetime. Good luck!

I need to hear the truth and not lie
to myself. Which we all know we
are masters of. Lying to ourselves
so we can use.

Thinking about I will see what the
result is. Do I need surgery or can they
set it without?

If they can set it without then no pain pills
other then over the counter. If surgery
see what he can give for no more then
2 weeks.

I need to remember the hell I went
through getting off them last April.

I made it through eye surgery without
them.Plrase keep in your prayers.

I broke my right wrist two years ago and didn't take any pain meds. Once it was set in the cast it didn't hurt as much. It's when you move it and it is not set that it hurts. It hurt like hell when they reset it, but that too passed. With your history, I really think you should try and get through this without any pain medication.

Hi Chrisy, my son had a nasty wrist break 2 years ago that required surgery. He was fine with nothing stronger than paracetamol and he rarely needed that. I know these things are all different though so I definitely recommend being honest with your Dr.

My own experience with hip replacement 3 yrs.
ago, I made sure all my doctors knew I am in
recovery and shared how long and that any meds
I would need from beginning to end that it be
non habit forming and no narcotics.

I not only mentioned it once, but several times
because there are other doctors and nurses,
physicians, pharmasists involved and as much
as they are eager to comply with the patiants
wished for meds to numb pain, i surely didnt
want anything to disturb my own recovery.

My recovery of 21 yrs now, still is that important
to me and I wont let anyone mess with it so it
is my responsibility to protect it to the best of my
ability.

Following the doctors suggestions and take meds
as followed by instructions will aid in a speedy
recovery and your sobriety is still unharmed.

Recovery works if we work it with openmindedness,
willingness and most importantly, honesty.

One of the partners in the practice I work for is a pain management Dr. You need to tell him about ANY addiction you have. This protects both of you.

I have broken my wrist before, as well as other bones, but I never needed narcotic painkillers. Is your addiction rearing its ugly head and causing you to seek out pain meds?
