| Help finding a meeting
I've been scanning the Internet trying to find a meeting. I live in Knoxville Tennessee . There are dozens and dozens of listings for meeings but I've never been to one and I'm pretty ignorant about it all. What should I be looking for? I'm pretty open to anything at this point.

| Hi and Welcome , well just keep that attitude and give a meeting a shot. And since you said there are many, member they are just people so some or different . Try a couple till you find one you like.

Main points: open means anyone can come closed means alcoholics only you don't have to speak if called on (just say"I'm so-and-so and I'm just here to listen tonight.") you don't have to say that you're an alcoholic try to listen with an open mind not all meetings are created equal, some are downright awful, so if you find yourself not caring for one meeting or feeling indifferent don't be afraid to try out a few. try to get phone numbers of people there if you do like the meeting and plan on going back. don't feel intimidated.

In a city the size of Knoxville you will have plenty of options. Myself, I tend to favor 7 p.m. meetings, usually one held in a church basement. In that setting you probably will get an afterwork crowd of people who live within a few miles of the church. The meeting probably will be a little smaller, 15 - 20 people, as opposed to downtown at "the club." I think that makes it a little easier to talk and meet people.

AA should be in your phone book... on the first page. Good luck in your recovery. Bob R
