What is a 12 & 12 Meeting in AA?

Can I just go to all the meetings now that I've been to 2? There is one called and 12 & 12 tonight. I googled it and could find an answer as to what that meant. I want to go but I'm nervous. Please help.

12 Steps and 12 Traditions. Most likely they are a step group, and each meeting they discuss Step 1/Trad 1, and so on.

It's good to go to a variety of meetings, so go check it out.

I don't know about the 12 & 12 but it's my understanding that the only requirement for AA is a desire to stop drinking so I would say yes, you can go to any meeting you want to if you want to stop drinking (though if this isn't true, please correct me!)! My first foray into the AA world was a year ago and I went to several meetings a week for a month and in that time I went to Big Book meetings, speaker meetings, 12-step study meetings, open meetings, closed meetings...you get the picture :)

Our 12 & 12 meetings read a chapter from the book 12 Steps and Twelve Traditions and discuss how the step and traditions apply to our program. I highly recommend. Big Book Studies are very good meetings also.

I'd say go. If you are serious about your sobriety, these are 2 very helpful tools. Most sponsors will go through the Big Book (first 164 pages) and the 12 and 12 with you as well. Going to these meetings can lay a basic foundation before sponsorship.

Okay, wheeww. I'm going @6PM and I'm getting nervous so I just had to ask. It's only my 3rd meeting so the sweaty palms are starting! LOL

You are more than welcome at any AA mtg. I prefer "big book" meetings, wherein a specific excerpt from the big book is read and discussed. Likewise, I expect a "12 & 12" meeting is where an excerpt of this AA publication is read and discussed.

This type of meeting should provide good, meat and potatoes program stuff that would benefit any newb.

The only AA meeting you can't go to is women's or men's only meetings (whichever applies). Other than this I have never heard of not being able to attend any AA meeting, provided that you have a desire to stop drinking.

12x12 meetings are my favorite ones.. you really get into some interesting conversations at them. At least in my group

12 & 12 and Big Book meetings provide a great opportunity to understand AA writings. If all you ever go to are open discussion meetings you are missing out.
