seeking advice

Hi All

I'm 29 and live in Australia, I've been drinking since I was about 15 and still can't consistently manage to control myself when I drink.

When I get really drunk I sometimes black out, I've been picked up and spent the night in lockup more than once, I've been done for DUI, I generally do things that I'm not proud of and am lucky to not have had any (more) serious repercussions than I have.

I have gone weeks or months without drinking, think I can control it and then go get really drunk again. I have a good job and good friends and am afraid I'll do something stupid and ruin the good things in my life.

After drinking heavily I'm remorseful for days and sometimes spend Saturday to Wednesday hating myself only to go and get drunk again on a Friday.

Can anyone offer some advice? I'm sick of going through this cycle over and over again.

Thanks
Chris

Is your goal to control your drinking or is it total abstinence?

If it is to control your drinking I cannot help, I failed miserably multiple times to control my drinking.

If you want to stop, I recommend AA. It is what helped me.

Welcome Chris

Yeah - it's a bad cycle to be in. Most people here use some kind of recovery program, because of the support life support. Thought about AA or some kind of counselling?

Here's a link of Aussie resources - it's not exhaustive but it's not a bad start...other than that - keep reading and posting - always good to have another Aussie here
