Hello, new to the forum.
Hello,
My name is Christine and I believe that I'm an alcoholic. I want to attempt AA meetings however after being in a somewhat bad car accident(no one was hurt) I try to avoid driving as much as I possibly can. I have been drinking since I was 14(33 years old now) but not excessively until as of late. I've been drinking about one to two times per week but getting so loaded that I have bruises that I'm not aware of(the cause) and I black out. Well that's all for now, I'm sure I'll share more later.

christine welcome!! glad to have you here
do you have anyone that could drive you or go with you to AA? if not try to check out a meeting in chat here on SR. most are AA based -- otherwise there are parts of the forum dedicated to AA where you can learn and be supported thru the steps. lots and lots of helpful AA'ers here.
i use SR to support me in my sobriety. i'm very determined this time to make my life better without drinking. i recently got a dui. the threads i visit every day are living in sobriety and the august thread. please feel free to drop in on either one. both are very positive and supportive threads.
keep coming and keep posting here!!! bo

No I do not have anybody who could drive me. Plus,I am so anxious in any car even if someone else is driving that I may have to seek help about it. I thank you all for such warm welcomes and I am really going to give sobriety my all this time. Well, I never actually tried to quit drinking, I never thought I had a problem since I don't or didn't drink everyday, but everytime I do, I get totally drunk...it's not just one, two or three drinks with me if you know what I mean.
Thanks again all!
Thanks again all!
Hey Christine, welcome to SR, since you are a lady you may feel a bit more comfortable and relate better to folks in AA if you started out at either a ladies meeting or a beginners meeting.
Give your local AA hotline a call & see if they can set you up with some meetings. Not sure where you live, but I live in Fredericksburg Virginia, not a huge city at all and we have several begiiners and ladies meetings.
Perhaps speaking to some of the ladies you may feel comfortable with them giving you a ride to a meeting. When you call the hotline let them know about the concerns you have about being in a car right now.

Hi Christine welcome to SR. You sound a lot like I did. I didn't drink daily so never thought I had a problem but when I drank I DRANK and blacked out and always had unexplained bruises and I live alone and did most all my drinking alone. I had also been in a major car accident where I was seriously hurt, I had recovered physically but I was and still am somewhat afraid of driving especially in the dark. I was fortunate that there was an AA meeting location just 2 miles from my house and I went during daylight hours. At my first or 2nd meeting I mentioned my fear of driving and immediately I had 2 offers from people who said they'd pick me up and drive me home. I pray you have strength.
