I thought librium was mainly prescribed for alcohol detox, it is part of the benzo family so I suppose it could be used for anxiety too. Why did he prescribe it? I am sure you know benzos are highly addictive?

I was given Librax, (Chlordiazepoxide hydrochloride plus clidinium bromide) when I couldn't hold anything down for a few days, helped my stomach tolerate fluids so I wouldn't dehydrate. Of course it happened after I had a bad reaction to alcohol... 3-4 glasses of wine was all it took. Whenever I've taken it, it wipes me out, can't function. Sometimes I get nausea/dizzy spells out of the blue and have taken it to overcome that. But I need to stay in bed and sleep it off.

I was administered librium in the hospital during detox. It is my understanding that it reduces the likelihood of a seizure during withdrawal. Because it is an addictive benzo they only gave it to me during acute withdrawal in the hospital.

The person you should be talking about this to is your doctor. Don't continue to take medication that has an adverse effect on you. Let your doctor know what's going on and get the meds changed.

The meds given for detox are to reduce the chance of having seizures, not for having fun on. Anytime I was given meds for withdrawal it was only for a few days until the physical withdrawal was over. Maybe your dose is too high, ask your doctor about taking less of it until withdrawal is over.

Librium is extremely addictive. Use only as directed and only when needed. | |
