Question my first steps - looking for encouragement

Keith O’s
Steps 1-12
6/23/2009 sobriety date _ this time been trying for EVER

We admitted we were powerless over alcohol, that our lives had become unmanageable.

Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

Steps 1 & 2
Alcohol almost never produces my intended effect and ALWAYS, eventually produces unintended remorse and regret, the unintended consequences therefore render me ineffective to deal with life on life’s terms (e.g. relationship with my wife, potential negative and real negative consequences with the law, unhappiness…etc.) Since I myself have made hundreds if not thousands of attempts to restore myself to sanity (ie not keep drinking night after night to excess, when I feel remorseful each morning without obtaining intended effects such has joy and happiness (except briefly while I was drinking, more relief), and with no success of moderating after sometime, I therefore must be powerless and the entity that can restore me to sanity must be a greater power than myself.

Step 3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

Step 3
Based on the items I discuss in Steps 1 & 2 and in order to retain any happiness for myself I’m placing my self will that has guided my entire life in the hands of the universal creator (fifth force) or God as I understand him and as he speaks to me through my cognitive thought (my neocortex.) The neocortex is the complex, conscious section of the brain. It is the part of the brain that gives you a sense of individuality - a sense of "being you."

"Remorseful each morning without obtaining intended results" - very well said, Keitheo, and I can relate. Don't be discouraged in these early days - everything gets better and makes more sense as you leave the fog & come out into the sunshine. This can be the last time you ever have to go through this transition period - the rollercoaster ride is over. We're glad you're here with us.

Good for you for going over those steps. One way to make them work is to being willing to work. I hope you have a sponsor to guide you through the steps. The steps are so crucial to becoming "better" as this all life changing. Congrats!!!
