I can see that this is going to be a long process.

I worked lesson 1, the law of love (and kept 2 in mind) yesterday, and it's interesting because it really was a very good day. When I felt frustrated with people, my husband or myself, I took my little paper out and thought "only the gifts I want to accept for myself." I think lesson 2 popped even more often. The idea that when I presume guilt in another that I'm reinforcing my own sense of it (and even the sense that guilt exists at all) really rung a bell.

Anyway, today I'm reading further and every chapter seems even more relevant than the last. Thanks for the head's up, 1_Day.

I got the book today (Thanks 1 Day!!) and just started reading it. I have a hard time concentrating for more than about a minute or two at a time without my mind wandering, so I find myself having to re-read sentences several times as I really want to understand and follow the concepts.

I've read the introductions and part of the first chapter. I like what I have read so far. The basic concept, as I'm understanding it, is to stay focused on the present. Guilt of the past can only harm you, and there truly is nothing you can do about it. The same with the fear of the future. If you can somehow just concentrate on RIGHT NOW, this very second, this very moment in time, you can find peace, or love, as the author defines it.

This makes a great deal of sense to me, though like most "simple" concepts, is much easier said than done!! I think if I can focus on this when I get "off center" this can help. I do have tremendous guilt about the past, and I currently have so many question marks about my future that I do fear it. None of this is doing anything positive for me though, so I shouldn't give it the control over my life that I do.

I'll post more about it when I read a bit more this weekend. Thanks again.

I am

I was regretting the past and fearing the future.

Suddenly my Lord was speaking:

"My name is I am"

He paused.

I waited. He continued.

"When you live in the past with its mistakes and regrets, it is hard.

I am not there.

My name is not I WAS.

When you live in the future, with its problems and fears, it is hard.

I am not there.

My name is not I WILL BE.

When you live in this moment, it is not hard.

I am here.

My name is I AM."

This is very powerful even if you don't believe in God or a Higher Power.

Take this in in the moment you are in.........RIGHT NOW!!!

I'm ordering the book as well. Thank you for the recommendation. BTW... ending day 1 without a drink. (I seriously can't remember the last time I didn't have a drink or 12... it's been YEARS). Thank you for hanging in there with us new comers.

perhaps we can set up a study group of the book, with a web cam & telephone conference so we can all share, any of you have the knowledge to do so?
