The Sweetness So, this week's been going pretty good. I have noticed one thing though that I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced. I've been getting this sweet taste in my mouth, kind of like I just ate a big spoonful of sugar. I'm not a sweets lover whatsoever, and am assuming that this is one of the after affects of all of those sugar loaded beers I've drank all of these years. Has anyone else experienced this and managed to quench it? Right now I'm doing the fresh fruit and smoothie thing. Any other tips to quench the sweetness?

Oh yes, I think you're right. There are lots of things like Coke Zero if you're looking for calorie free drinks. I also chewed sugarless gum. That helped too. I still prefer water, most of the time.

I have something similar. I "taste" the stale wine taste in my mouth and "smell" the same scent I notice when I've been drinking wine. Don't understand it but can still 'smell' and 'taste' it. Like a hallucination of my taste buds and sense of smell. Strange.

I think that this is part of the detox. Simple carbs (i.e. sugar) burn very quickly and don't quite make it to the brain in the form of converted glucose. Instead, they get stored in fatty tissue throughout our bodies. I often get "sticky hands" and a sweet taste in my mouth. Water is the best remedy. I also enjoy saunas as they help leach toxins from the body. Just be sure to monitor hydration levels (before, during and after) and take them in moderation if you have issues with blood pressure, heart palpations, etc.
