Ok...maybe I should be moving over to the whiners thread.
I dunno if I can get it done.
The whole time Im down there Im thinking of good excuses to tell him why I dont have it done.
Then I give myself a hard time for attempting to go back on my word.
WHY is it so hard for me to just clean a freeking basement??!!

Stoney - just my opinion - I didn't care for Zen of recovery. I really like 12 steps on buddha's path, bill buddha and we by Laura S. However the one I thought you would really like (I got the name wrong before) is that one breath at a time by kennith griffin.

I did find griffins description of alchoholism and the karma of a malfunctioning liver helpfu. And Laura S.'s incorporation of the 4 knowble truths and the 8 fold path really helped me with the step work since I do AA.

Dealing with my alchoholism is a part of my spiritual journey and exploring these things has really helped me. 2 things I really like are the wy Laura S describes dealling with cravings to drink and something my buddhist sponsor said about the most compassionate thing I could do for myself and others is not drink.

God, grant Julie the serenity to clean the friggin' basement, to accept that she might not get it done perfectly, and the wisdom to know when to quit

Julie - I have the same problem. My house was so dirty I was afraid to call Merry Maids. I called a place at one point, and they said they would have to wear those haz mat space suits....FOR REAL!

It's getting better, but I have had to decide it doesn't have to be perfect, and I do alot of "just pick up one thing everytime you get out of your chair". Supprisingly that has helped. Plus a mom who came to help twice since I got sober! My hairdresser even offered to come help...but I would have been too embarrased.

I do that religiously and it drives my GF nuts, but my house stays pretty clean!

OMG Ananda! Im laffin so hard over here Im crying. My teenager is looking at me like Im nuts.
You are my bestest friend right now, k? Sometimes I think people would be so grossed out if they looked in my closets, under beds, or...in the basement!
I tell myself Im the only one who cant seem to get it together and just have a decently organized house. I wont even let my mom in the house! (aka Ms Martha Stewart wanna-be)
Its so so so nice to hear someone else just be honest about it.

We could play "Guess What This Used To Be" with lots of the contents of my fridge.
We NEVER eat leftovers. Yet every night, I pack em up in all those tupperware bowls I got sucked into buying at one of those stoooopid home parties (I went cuz there was going to be wine) Anywho...I pack em up, and there they sit. Until they get fuzzy.
Im sick.

I drink my coffee in the morning (for about three hours) and read the newspaper. And

dust and take out the garbage and sweep and read the paper and take smoke breaks

(my last vice...yuck)...and watch the news.

Then save personal business for afternoons. Notice I don't come here until afternoon?

Here in Southern Cal.. around 3:00 p.m.

Slothful...slothful...slothful!

Man Ananda...you got me on a roll!

K...this one is kinda funny.
My kids have never worn matching socks. They always told people they were starting a new fad....how cool.
It was really cuz the entire family's socks get washed then thrown in a big box.
You want socks? Then dig and find a pair.
Keep in mind, its a house of 6....5 of them girls with dozens of pairs of cutsie socks.
It could take an hour to find a match.
