I did two positive things today!!

Since my Birthday is coming up and my boss always buys be a bottle of something, I told him today I am not drinking any more so he would know not to do that.
Also I cashed in the empty beer bottles that have been laying around for ever and didn't buy more beer. That felt weird!

Good job all the way around!! That couldn't have been an easy choice. Hopefully it was easy doing it. Definately pat yourself on the back for that one. Keep up the great work!

It was easy but I do know it's going to be a difficult thing to stick with. I am being right up front with myself

Right on! It makes me think of how I have had 2 days where I got to the end of my day and I realized I didn't think about alcohol that whole day! Just the normalizing. It feels so good.

I don't know if that's the same thing for you, but it's what you made me think of.

I also had a conversation with some mothers' of friends of my kids and they invited me to go somewhere with them and I said, "Well, I'm a recovering alcoholic so I think I'll pass. But thanks for the invite!" I just said it - didn't even think about it. And it was fine.

I'm rambling. Good for you! is what I meant. (:

Been a few years for me but I still run into a problem on what to do with unopened bottles that may show up here. Give them away so others can enjoy the missery of drinking? Dump them down the sink? Makes me feel like I just burnt up a $20. I won't drink it but the questions do show up in many forms on what to do with it if it shows up.
An open bottle is easy for me to deal with. Opened and dumped works well for me.

I need to take care of a few open bottles of the hard stuff myself and having the same qualms? I hate to waste but also tired of being wasted

I couldn't imagine even touching them without drinking them. You're a bigger man than me. Of course, I'm a woman so....

But seriously, I would need help to deal with them and I wouldn't even blink at the monetary cost of losing them. Who cares? It's just money. This your sobriety we're talking about!!

I found an empty, just a little in the bottom, at about 3 mos sober. First I recoiled...then I checked to see if there was enough to get it out of the bottle and in my mouth. I made it through, but gave me quite a fright.

My mom is coming up this weekend to clean up my bedroom. I've been putting it off and I know part of it is if I come across a 1/2 empty bottle, I'm worry that I'll be too tempted.

Figure better safe than sorry!

I don't really know what came over me through the holidays I started drinking the hard stuff which I never have in the past to excess {just beer} but that was kind of the straw that broke my back I went over the edge I guess and really started hurting myself. I have had a bottle of whiskey around for years with out touching it but I do think now, at this point in my life I am going to clean out everything and have it as tidy as a Nuns pantry

Me too Rodney - the holidays this year proved to me just how much I CAN'T handle it anymore. I've only drunk beer for years & don't know what possessed me, but on Christmas Eve I had a craving for Egg Nog & I thoroughly enjoyed it, but not the 2 wk. long binge that followed. I'm so happy for you that you're coming to this realization now. You'll still have some great (and coherent) decades left. Love, Joanie
