SMART Recovery

I've read some literature on this program but was wondering if anyone has had any personal experience with it.
There was a meeting last night but I missed it.
If I get to one, i'll let u know about it but if u've been, please hit me back.

I have not been to a meeting but a family member just loves it. I have read all of the information and it sounds like a smart move. I have found it helpful.

I was using both SoberRecovery and Smart for awhile several years ago. I gradually started going less and less to Smart, mainly because they were too accepting of people trying to moderate. I knew that was not for me and did not want to be tempted.

Some might find it a good program and I did gain some usefull info from it but eventually had to drop it completely. I don't do AA (just not for me) but I wanted no excuses to drink, if only in small amounts. SoberRecovery and my therapist have proven to be the ticket for me. (Also, antidepressants!)

I did Smart for a little while last year. And really liked it and I liked how the meetings were conducted. A little different than AA. They talk to each person before the meeting and ask if they have any issues and it will be brought up and you will have time to share and actually get responses. As in AA I found it isnt as personable everytime and alot of times you dont get responses just a thank you for sharing and thats it. Not knocking any of it.
I just like that each and every person gets a chance to be heard if needed.

Smart does not teach moderation.

1- enhancing motivation to abstain
2- refusing to act on urges to use
3- managing life's problems in a sensible way without substances
4- developing a positive, balance and healthy lifestyle
