Illness = hard
Illness = hard
Having had some sort of virus for the past 5 or 6 days I have to warn people it's hard!
I am over 3 months sober and wasn't feeling all that solid in my sobriety and feeling ill makes it much harder and I have had a lot of cravings too. I am constantly talking myself out of drinking, drinking knowing full well what it would mean.
I have basically lost touch with AA apart from one meeting a week.
For the first time in 3 months I would LOVE a litre of vodka.
I had been feeling exhausted and unmotivated before the virus and now I am worse!

Getting sick sucks in sobriety. I have never had so many colds, viruses and other nastiness. I think the reason was I was so drunk the last decade or so I never knew when I was sick.
It passes.
Remember - one day at a time - it gets much, much better.

people tell me it takes all their strength to stay sober in the first year, and yours got knocked down a bit with your bug.
alcoholism is such a heartless disease - it would love to kick your a#@ right now. do not let it!

Hi there Stone
Hope you are beginning to feel stronger. I was very sick in my 3rd month of sobriety too. It was a deep cleanse, I believe, looking back on it. However, that fact doesn't minimize in any way how awful I felt. I had respiratory and whole body illness and required drugs. My dr gave me cough syrup with codeine in it and I tossed it out after 2 days. I also tried Nyquil which does have alcohol in it, and it was very bad for me...triggered thoughts of drinking and drugging.
So, I ended up here at Sr alot and eventually healed.
you will too..,
sendoing you best wishes

Stoney I haven't been well the past week either with a sinus infection. I thought I'd like to drink myself to sleep quite a few of those nights so I *know* how you feel . Take solace in knowing that by not giving in you have that strength to draw on now as well as the fact that you don't have to go back and start all over with the withdrawals and guilt.
Hey Stone, hope you're starting to feel a bit better.
I think it may be something to do with the seasons changing, I've been ill the last few weeks and know a few other folks fighting the bugs.
Interesting to hear that others relating to illness in their third month though, that's where I'm at also.
Sending healthy thoughts and lots of OJ.
