Hi Guys, I'm so sick and tired of this. I've spent too many days feeling like death, I'm 28 and already too old for this. I'm sick of not being able to trust myself around alcohol. I don't like spending $150 on a night out. I don't like waking up and not knowing what happened the night before, I can remember most stuff, but there are too many questions -how did I get home? Reading the stamps on my arm to figure out which night clubs I danced in! Talking crap to strangers, numbers in my phone and I've no idea who they are for, drunken text messages, fighting with friends, drunken plans that I can't follow through with because I'm too hung over, the embarrasment etc etc... I could go on and on and on! Just wanted to put something in writing to kind of make it official. I give up. I have no control over how much I drink. One I can have, two is ok, but three= twenty! Last night I went out and ended up blind drunk (again), I can't remember much after about 3am, I know I didn't do anything majorly stupid (which does happen) but I admit it. To myself and whoever reads this. I can't do this anymore. I quit. I'm aiming for a month off to start with, but I know I really need to quit for good. So thats it. Game over! I'm quitting alcohol. Thanks for reading, Jen

Welcome ! You've taken part of your first step, congratulations ! We've all hit our respective bottoms, and felt as you do now. For me, it was wanting to quit, but not being able to. If I went 4 hours without alcohol, I'd start going into withdraw. I spent 2 years of my life with a constant high BAL, and ended up getting arrested at my daughters High School for public intox (I blew a .26). Get a program and work it. Things get better. They did for me.

Enjoy your beautiful country! I'm stuck in the land of natural disasters California, USA. I've developed a drinking game for us here. Everytime the state is on fire, take a drink. 2 for a landslide, 3 for a quake, etc. Seriously, best of luck from me @8100 miles away. I'm pulling for you! You hang on! Love ya!

Hi Jen, and welcome. Your drinking describes mine exactly. You're still young and realizing you may have a problem is a big step. You'll find a lot of support here. You can stop the cycle of drinking. There are different programs you can use. I have one month sober today, so it can be done! Best to you, Thorn |

G'day again, Thanks so much for all of your messages. I still feel a bit sheepish today about Friday, but I know that this feeling will pass and in a weeks time I'll be at risk of doing it all over again, but fingers crossed I'll keep this resolve and I look forward to being able to say in a months time that I've done it! The excerpts from "Under the influence" in the Alcoholism section are eye opening, I know this is genetic, but seeing all of the stuff about not being able to stop drinking once you've started is really interesting! I'm a mid stage alcoholic, I'm not proud of it, but I'm also not going to get to the end stage, thanks to all of you and your wonderful words of advice and wisdom. Thanks again and loads of Love, Jen
