The Ord River in Kununurra. I live in a very remote town in Australia... Crocodile Dundee territory with lots of snakes and Saltwater Crocodiles. I see you're an Aussie PJ...have you ever been up this way?

The concert was great! Blast from the past Poison with Jackyl opening. Took my son and he loved it. Not 1 urge.

Good morning. Last night I got pretty down and negative thoughts kept circling in my head. Why do I automatically think to drink when I'm in a bad mood? Alcohol CAUSED these negative thoughts in the first place. Time to move on to the next stage of dealing with emotions without thinking about drinking first. Mindfulness seems to be helpful for many people. Need to look into this more I guess. Does anyone have any website recommendations or techniques that can used while working? Any ideas are appreciated.
Hope you are all doing well. Have a great sober day everyone. 😊

How was the Fire Island ride, JCNY? I rode 43 miles on Saturday, but it wasn't as scenic as Fire Island.

Hey Tiles, Fire Island ride was supposed to be today but we nixed it since it's kind of chilly. I spent a lot of summers there as a kid and it's nice to go back. Are you ready for the Seattle to Portland ride? How long does that take?

SandyO, I haven't really read too much on mindfulness / urge surfing. I do tend to save links I plan to follow up on in a sober folder and have this.

https://www.mindful.org/five-steps-to-mindfulness/

I've read a little about HALT triggers (hungry-angry-lonely-tired). I prefer HALTS with the S for stressed/sad. Your bad mood maybe be anger/sadness. I'm new at this, but these emotions tend to cause cravings and we need a solid plan to work through them and stay sober. Good luck

JCNY,
I think everyone could probably make their own acronym of triggers. "S" for stress is a good one for me also. "B" for boredom is probably my biggest. I never understood "H" or "T", definitely not triggers for me. I just can't spell any words with mine!

Actually, me either Carlito. I do find that eating or drinking something filling helps stave off cravings.

Not ready for STP, but I will be ready by July. The guys I ride the STP with the last two years want to do it in one day this year, which means a 17 mph pace for 16 hours. Brutal. It's 205 miles. Most people do it in two days.
I've posted this before but the first time I did the STP, in 2015, I was a full blown alcoholic and I remember thinking, "I shouldn't be able to do this." I somehow did it, but I was a big overweight sweaty mess, and I was the slowest in my group. I'm lucky they invited me to ride again, but they did.
This year I actually look like a real bicyclist. Lean and mean.

Jeez Tiles, that does sound brutal! Friggin awesome that you're doing it again and are in much better shape. I think 37 miles is my longest ride so far. I'm trying to get lean and mean myself, there's a 101 mile ride to Montauk I should set my sights on.

Checking in Marchers(Ninjas). Hope everyone had a good weekend. Looks like we have a couple of serious bicyclist in the house.

In regards to HALT or triggers mine is boredom. A busy me is a sober me.....
