24-Hour Recovery Connections Part 48
Survived the family dinner. My sobriety is intact.
Sent 3 bottles of wine home with my relatives and poured out the half glass that got left behind (who DOES that? I don't recallEVER leaving a half empty glass. .....)
Thank you to those who have walked silently with me today.

Another 24 here please! Today will be three weeks.
More good news - yesterday I had my written/physical testing to become an auxiliary police officer in my hometown. I passed!
I'm just very sore today.

Why would a person be fascinated that ducks subsist on water lily bulbs? Because water lilies are often (tho technically incorrectly) called lotus, and lotus-eaters are known since the Odyssey for their diet: (Book IX. Homer. 1909-14. The Odyssey. The Harvard Classics)
No one knows what kind of plant Homer is referring to. This water lily is one possibility:
Nymphaea caerulea, blue lotus or blue water lily
I hope in sobriety we’ve all now remembered our homeward way. See you tomorrow, yes?
P.S. Check back later for the Monday-to-Sunday list!

“on the tenth day we set foot on the land of the lotus-eaters, who eat a flowery food. … certain of my company .. went and mixed with the men of the lotus-eaters, and so it was that the lotus-eaters devised not death for our fellows, but gave them of the lotus to taste. Now whosoever of them did eat the honey-sweet fruit of the lotus, had no more wish to bring tidings nor to come back, but there he chose to abide with the lotus-eating men, ever feeding on the lotus and forgetful of his homeward way.
