Class of August 2014 Part 17
Determined thank you for today's quote, made me shiver, it's beautiful!
Thanks all for the recommendations, I stayed up til 3 am reading about it! I love the thoughts, the altered state of perception of life, and feel so at peace reading , which must mean I am in a good place o a good track. I love the idea of dhukka, that happiness is not the default state to be in, that we create it by letting go of our anger, disappointment, sadness and suffering. The four noble truths is really enlightening me. I've been an atheist for a very long time. Odd how I find Buddhism so alluring right now, I will go with it, see where it takes me.
Love that you are all giving me recommendation and not poo pooing this as a fad like some real life people are.
London, Ben and Jerry's do peanut butter cup ice cream. .....don't know if it's any good, but Google says it's highly Recommended!
I wish you all a tranquil relaxing day, may you feel content in your own shoes today xxx

So interesting you mention atheism and and peace Pink as those mirror the background and initial thoughts of the passage I read.
The gentleman who wrote about the Buddhism book was agnostic. He writes this about the First Noble Truth, "[it] resonated inside me as if I had been struck like a bell. The deep simplicity of this statement felt like a solid place to rest, to begin. There was nothing here that smacked of rewards or punishments, sin or saintliness; only a calm acceptance of present reality"
My family attends a Congragational Church which will love because of its openness and acceptance. Each service begins with, "No matter who you are, or where you are on lifes journey, you are welcome here. And we're glad you're here!"
We're bringing up our children to believe in God- and to recognize and accept that people can find- and define- God, and practice religion, in different ways.

Hey all
Super sober Saturday!
I love waking up fresh and alert. Like Determined.
I got up and about early and did my Saturday morning AA which was a good meeting. Did a bit of shopping and now going to the gym before an evening meal with a friend. A nice day!
When I was in Thailand I visited some Buddhist temples and was lucky enough to go into the temple and sit whilst others prayed and meditated. So calm and peaceful. That religion is definately onto something.

Congratulations Pink on 7months!
Had my girls last night and today after they went back to their mums I decided to go and watch my local football team, felt cautious as I went on my own and had one of those 'no-one will know' thoughts, but they passed and I enjoyed the game sober, although I wasn't in control of my emotions, shouted at the referee a lot and used some unsavoury language, which was great therapy to release pent up anger and frustration...
Have a great wkend everyone!
