So, in my recovery journey reading has helped me big time. I ordered new books yesterday and am gonna start reading Parched. I thought I would give ya some book quotes that were fitting of course for us to start (or end) our day with
“I once heard a sober alcoholic say that drinking never made him happy, but it made him feel like he was going to be happy in about fifteen minutes. That was exactly it, and I couldn’t understand why the happiness never came, couldn’t see the flaw in my thinking, couldn’t see that alcohol kept me trapped in a world of illusion, procrastination, paralysis. I lived always in the future, never in the present. Next time, next time! Next time I drank it would be different, next time it would make me feel good again. And all my efforts were doomed, because already drinking hadn’t made me feel good in years.”
― Heather King, Parched
“When you quit drinking you stop waiting.”
― Caroline Knapp, Drinking: A Love Story
“I've always believed clear-eyed sobriety was for the harder hearted.”
― Gillian Flynn, Sharp Objects
“Getting sober is a radically creative act.”
― Meredith Bell, A Sober Year: Daily Musings on an Alcohol-Free Life
“Be grateful. These feelings, no matter how painful, are part of
living. Today, we are alive—not anesthetized, not sedated, not passed
out. Take control of your feelings and through action you can change.
Today, as every day of sober living, we have a choice.”
― Ann D. Clark, Women & Recovery: Sex, Sobriety & Stepping Up: Practical Suggestions for Quality Living in Recovery
“achieving true sobriety goes beyond abstinence. it's also about healing your soul, apologizing for damage you did to other, and seeking forgiveness.”
― Lou Gramm, Juke Box Hero: My Five Decades in Rock 'n' Roll
HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!!! KEEP GROWING, LEARNING AND REACHING OUT.
"Reach up or out and GROWWWW!!!!!"
"We fight to hold on and we fight to let go...."
"we see the world, not as it is, but as we are"
"our best days are ahead of us....when the movie starts and the guy gets sober & puts his life back together ...it doesn't end there"
"there is no better high than discovery"
"my mind may be sober, but my confidence is high"
"hit the bottom and get back up....hit the bottle and stay down"
and last one and so happy we don't feel this anymore!
..."I lived to be forgotten because I had forgotten how to live"
Well we are back and learning!!!! Happy days ahead xoxoxo
Love and hugs to you all xoxooxoooo

SDH73, Thank you for joining us. I have to admit, it helps me tremendously to see people sign in day after day, especially those who are struggling.
It is a triumph of the human spirit.
I am also really happy to see the PNW folks every day. ColdFusion, Altoids, Missy7, Zeppo. You guys are my little local sobriety group. I need you guys/gals.
Okay, I need all of you. Please keep coming here.
1973...I was skydiving on a womens' team that was being trained by the world champion mens' team in central Florida. It was a super intense year and we ended up coming in tenth in the Nationals, out of several hundred teams - we were the only competitive women who placed. That year I had a scary malfunction and faced the actual fear of death for the second time in my young life. Spoiler* I survived.
It was the year I first faced domestic violence from a boyfriend, too. Some memories are best left behind. Let's just say there was definitely drugs and alcohol involved. He owned a bar and as it turned out was also a drug smuggler. Ahhh, Florida in the 70s. Making my escape was a very good move on my part!
24 more up here in the top left corner. 9:22AM.

I'm in for 24. I thought I had plans tonight. They fell through. Immediately I think I can drink now. Life stress. Job stress. It will make everything worse.
1:57 pm here in chilly Toronto. A long walk, then a cozy night inside, no drinking.

Speaking of Oreos, my newest obsession is French Silk Pie. I've found these mini ones (individual slice) at the store & my life has become infinitely better because of them! Yum! I may have to start a recovery thread for them though. I need to start a tapering plan I think.
.
I've been away for a few days, but just as committed- missed you all. Congrats to the milestoners I've missed and hope all are well.
Dad comes home on Thanksgiving! Walking unassisted, doing stairs like nobody's business and completely cognitively intact. I thank the heavens each day for that, and for my sober self.
