24-Hour Recovery Connections Part 21
Howdy gang. I'm in for today. Totally exhausted, though. I took my BFF's daughter to a concert in the city last night. Oh.my.word. . . can you say blessed? Yes, my best friend asked ME to take her young teen daughter into the city, to dinner, and to a concert. Yes, sobriety has many rewards. One of the best ones is trust.
Good Evening, friends, & Welcome! Whether you’re new to SR, new to this thread, just coming back, counting days or years, we’re glad you’re here!

Counting down to Halloween night. #7: miscellaneous demons. Demons definitely make my cut as monsters: they get top ratings by being of supernatural/unknown/divine origin, and rank somewhere in the bottom 3rd of the top ten monsters on the direction of their malevolence – on the one hand, they definitely go around trying to cause trouble, even luring people to the Devil Himself; on the other hand, they’re oddly distractable – you can appease a demon with sacrifices like milk & eggs, or burning herbs. It often seems like demons are more interested in one another than in humans – we’re just a way of acting out their other-worldly angst.
My current two favorite demons are Pazuzu and Lamashtu. You probably already know Pazuzu – he’s the demon who possesses Linda Blair in The Exorcist. “He stands on two legs and has human arms ending in claws, with two pairs of wings, a scorpion's tail, a snake-headed, erect penis, and a horned, bearded head with bulging eyes and snarling canine mouth” (Pazuzu: Beyond Good and Evil | The Metropolitan Museum of Art). Yes, you got that right. Snake-headed.
The crazy thing about Pazuzu is, we like him! That’s because he fights against Lamashtu, who’s really scary! She has “a hairy body, a lioness' head with donkey's teeth and ears, long fingers and fingernails, and the feet of a bird with sharp talons" (Wikipedia). She rides standing on a donkey’s back, dogs and pigs suckle at her meager breasts, and she handles vipers. She attacks and devours pregnant women and newborn babies. Yikes!
My third scale for ranking monsters is the impact of their evil. Generally speaking, demons can hurt you (plenty) physically, and can lead you to corruption, but they don’t damage your soul. But that may be a point for debate: Once Linda Blair is successfully exorcised, would you date her? Think about your classic incubus (or succuba). After Rosemary has the little demon baby, is she a good girl again?
I think she is! I think there's a good reason they call it “demon-alcohol”, and we can beat it and recover 100%! But just in case, let’s all stay away from demons for the next 24 hours, ok? See you soon!

Tomorrow morning we're going to Disneyland for a couple of days, already bought the Park Hopper Tix's online, reserved our hotel room!! It's only about 40 minutes away, but I love to be in the Disney Bubble. Time to check in for the next 24 hours of my recovery, thanks to my HP & AA.

12amET in md...@ mtg I got called out by name, mind you just coz dude didn't "approve" what I said! First time in sobriety it's ever happened to me. Did not use profanity nor did imply of anyone work step two the way I was shown by first sponsor who btw was an agnostic when came into program. Did not let it get to me(irritated, yes but prayed & let it go). Sponsor was proud of way have handled things these past three days. But i give credit to God & AA for changing me & continuing to. Whatever happened to pick what you need @ mtgs & leave behind what you don't? Smh
Ready for another 24 as new wk begins & ready for whatever challenges life may bring. Thanks SR
