Congratulations to all the milestones - so lovely to hear of people with long term sobriety still supporting those in earlier recovery - e.g. grtgrandpa. Thank you to all those in SR this is an incredible place of support for me. Feeling a little fragile this morning - not thinking of drinking - but I'm aware cranky irrational thoughts are running around in my head - I will need to be vigilant today to keep a check on these thoughts. Anyway, committing for another 24 hours of sobriety. What a great way to live!

Do you have a totem animal or familiar spirit? Tonight, the bear, an animal of strength and protection for all those in need, and an animal associated with Dee, one of today’s milestone celebrants. Maybe Dee’s frequent muppet costume is just proxy for a bearskin?

I was surprised to learn there are only 8 living species of bear: the giant panda, spectacled, sun, sloth, brown, American black, Asian black, and polar bears. They are the largest land carnivores and their sense of smell is better than the dog’s. They are generally solitary in their habits, except in small family units of a mother caring for her cubs.

The bear has been worshipped since prehistoric times. Bear symbolizes strength, leadership, fearlessness, and confidence, and is a symbolic animal for those who stand up to face adversity. Bear supports warriors in battle, and defends those it cares for fiercely. “As a spirit animal in touch with the earth and the cycles of nature, it is a powerful guide to support physical and emotional healing” (Bear Spirit Animal | Meaning). When and if you ever look closely at a bear, you can see why it's a strong and trustworthy spiritual leader.

Please send me your recovery animal by PM or post about it here. I'll include one of your suggestions with the roster every day – until I run out of ideas! Coming up: butterfly, wolf, hummingbird, cow, and whale!
