Class of March 2013 part 30
Great work, Trachy!
I still occasionally slip and this morning had a 2-hour eval with an addiction specialist. I will be seeing an addiction counselor on a regular basis and will either do SMART recovery or another non-AA women's group. It feels good to have had a long and totally honest discussion with this very bright and personable pdoc. I also was able to switch back to the wonderful regular pdoc I used to see so I am feeling much more hopeful than I have in a good while!

I am glad you haven't slipped away from US, Sass! So glad you're stepping up your program--and thrilled that you're back with your simpatico psychiatrist. I finally found a good one, and she is great. Even my husband likes her.
Thanks, Gilmer! A good pdoc can make such a big difference. The one i had been seeing is very nice but not very proactive and isn't great about taking advantage of available local resources. One meeting with my previous pdoc last week and all this was immediately set up.
Good morning Marchers We are in the middle of a mini heatwave here, it's the third day where we will have had 18C! I get so excited when the mercury rises.
Trachy I am so pleased for you, you can do this you know. Sometimes I look back on the bad old days and wonder how I got through them as a "functional" alcoholic -- it exhausts me thinking about it, it's so much better here on the other side. Stay close to us, don't slip away and follow all the good advice that you think will work for you.
Gilmer I am delighted to hear you are signed up for your next course, studying really seems to ground you as it were.
Have a good day peeps.

High 5 Trachy!
I don't know that I would go as far as to say a mild antidepressant is an exchange of equal crutch to alcohol. I think I vote good for you it helps and if it's working...keep it going!
Life's too short to be depressed...and drunk. Fantastic on the record Trach! xoxo
Good for you too Sassy! You sound like you got an arsenal of things to keep you going in the right direction. Good for you. (((Hug)))
Hi Gilmer, Marcher, Toots, and Budd and We! Kinda quiet around here. Hope everyone is doing okay and just enjoying life.
Later! Got to go find some food and maybe some mindless TV. Haven't been sleeping too good so maybe a nice hallmark channel movie. My favorite hallmark movie is Love Comes Softly. I love that story. But....my all time...all hands down...favorite....drum roll please....

Good morning, Marchers!
I don't know if you all realize just how enormously you have helped get to this point in my recovery! The slips were very painful and excruciatingly embarrassing for me. I stuck around because it helped me keep the goal at the front of my mind and I just couldn't seem to leave you guys and gals.
They now have pretty solid evidence that the RNY type of gastric bypass does have an impact, at least for those of us with a propensity toward addiction. In my program's annual brochure they now finally warn about that. It's not an excuse. It does explain why this is the first time I've had this much trouble quitting. The specialist is going to check with my liver doc to see if it's safe for me to take one of the meds that block the high to possibly make it a little easier to stop.
In the meantime, it's good to have a clear plan with professionals I really trust. With that and your support I know I can do this!

I head some good news today from my lawyer. My final court date is August 14th and since I've completed everything they required me to do, my DUI will be dropped down to Reckless Driving. I don't even have to be there!
Good morning Marchers Toots I thought of you last night when I saw some of the Games on TV, is the broadcast making you homesick? It looks like Scotland has turned on beautiful weather for the event.
Ken I am so so glad about the traffic thing, this is so much better and look at how you are dealing with things almost 17 months down the track! Sass and Trach good on you guys too.
Dee I hope you are doing ok now that things are a bit more settled for you, and I hope that your medication issues have settled down too.
Have a good Fritursday peeps.

Congratulations, Budd!
I had a traumatic, stress-filled day--and it didn't even occur to me to drink! Not at any time! Somebody had to point it out to me!
I have a very sore mouth. I had a gigantic tooth extracted. The dentist had to break it into three parts, because the roots curved all different ways. The last one was the toughest--he kept mumbling and humming the harder it got. It took an hour!
After it finally came out, he said, "That was intense!"
I like him so much better than my original dentist. He is uber-competent; plus, he is just starting out in his practice, whereas my other dentists have a fatcat practice with inflated prices. The price was right!
