Class of January 2013 Part 11
So good to hear from you, FG. So pleased that you're still living the sober life
Congratulations on your upcoming anniversary, Gilmer!
All is fine here in LumpLand. Just passed 21 months!

Congratulations Headlump and good to hear from Liz and FeelingGood
Isn't it amazing how time flies? It feels like yesterday that I found SR and tentatively posted in the Class of January. That thread was so busy back then.
I just had news from an old buddy of mine who would have been a fellow Januarian here on SR except that he is not a member. He relapsed and within a month time he lost his job, his housing and his partner. This is some scary stuff. I am so grateful that I stopped the madness.

The good news is that he got his behind to rehab last Tuesday.
I know they confiscate cell phones in rehab but I texted him so he sees the message when he gets his cell back to call me when he exit rehab so I can bridge him to an AA meeting.
Let's keep our fingers cross. He is such a sweet guy.

It's great to see everyone posting and doing well. Wow, 2-Jan will be 2 years for me. It's cooling off here and we had a nice backpack trip 2 weeks ago. The usual stresses come along and I sorta get how I started drinking everyday to run away for a few hours. But boy did the price become too high for the next 20 hours or so for those inebriated escapes. Now I use reading and exercise to deal with stress. Makes for an easier next day!

Quick one - I finally did a full, open, honest share as a speaker at AA this evening!! Kind of been a little bit of a deal for me to do this and was asked 'on the hop' and then just said yes! So, go me
I drank alone at home after work and got very depressed, I quit drinking did the steps and I am not as depressed . Not the kind of exciting stuff which will fill up a hall
You know that's interesting you wrote that because on the surface my life is pretty much the same.
Some people join AA, get out of the gutter, get a Mercedes and get married ... maybe because I was high bottom (meaning that I have a very low threshold for pain).
What has really changed is how I approach it and deal with stress, anger etc.
Like it says in the step 9 promises: Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change.
The promises have come true for me but it is definitely an inside job rather than a materialistic one (still waiting for that Mercedes)

Happy Thanksgiving Gilmer and Carlotta. We had ours over a month ago.
Nice to hear from fellow Januarians. We are few but strong. Tomorrow, I'll have 1 year and 11 months sober. Can't believe it will almost be 2 years. Is there a thread 2 years and over? LOL.
Enjoy the week-end!
