******POOF*************, Bee, right here! Wow, you're good...one minute I was getting coffee, and the next thing I knew, I was zipping through cyber space.... So, motorcyles is a theme today...Don't laugh, but my 20 yr old (my youngest...the one I'm closest to), wants one as well. They horrify me, mostly because of EVERYONE ELSE on the road...texting, phoning and god only knows what else. Well, she's in school in FL and has a snake (that's ANOTHER topic) which she wanted to bring home. I am not keen on snakes, but I'm not scared of them either. What bothers me (REALLY bothers me) is that she has to feed it live mice. Now, in the wild, this is what they eat and I get that, but in the wild, the mouse has a chance whereas in captivity, well...I don't like even to THINK about it. So we were at an impasse. She is attached to the snake and feels responsible for it (good), but I am ethically opposed (bad). She wants a motorcycle (bad). My solution? Compromise....I told her that she could bring it home for the summer, BUT she could NOT feed it in our house, I was never to see it happening AND she would agree to NOT get a motorcyle for 10 years (when hopefully this crazy idea will have passed) nor get any big tatoos (she has 2 small ones). We have a deal. She gave a little, I gave a little....and I've dodged the motorcycle bullet for the foreseeable future... The other theme today that I'm hearing is the devastation of this disease. It's all well, fine and good to chat here and make jokes ( I LOVE it as you know), but it's also good to remember that this beast is a lurker, like a dormant volcano, and it wants to steal our souls. I'm sorry for those of you who have lost loved ones because of it. My father and brother (ages 50 and 40) died of it as well. Not a good club to be in. But, if and when I am waffling, I remember them and will not let their sacrifices be in vain. I will learn from their fates, and choose not to let it become mine. Ok, I'm gettin' heavy here...did ya' hear the one about the rabbi, priest and??? JK... Hugs to all this a.m. !!!!!! PS Bee, love the new "avi"....is that a not so subtle hint you're giving me??? Where's the little foot stomping emoticon when I need him.... |

for all the gardeners - here's my list of gardening ideas i picked up at the weird city garden walk i went to last saturday: use an old shovel stuck in the ground as a flag pole bury colorful glass bottles, bottom side up in your sunny gardens for the light reflection plant herbs and creeping plants in the inside of cinder blocks on the ground (helps contain them and holds moisture in the cement planter) use old ceramic tiles as mulch, old plates buried halfway in ground as borders around plants

for all the cooks, here's today's recipe from my paper: Blueberry upside-down cake June 24, 2009 MAKES 18 SERVINGS 3 cups fresh blueberries (or frozen, thawed and drained) 1½ tablespoons lemon juice ¾ cup sugar 1½ tablespoons cornstarch 3 tablespoons butter 1 yellow cake mix (prepared per box directions) Spread berries evenly in bottom of a 9-by-13-inch greased cake pan. Sprinkle with lemon juice. Combine sugar and cornstarch; pour over berries. Dot berry mixture with butter. Top with prepared cake batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until done. Invert pan before cake cools. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.
