You do realize now that every time I see your avatar, I have an urge to go consume a couple dozen chocolate bars and walk around saying "I am the great Cornholio, I need tp for my bungholio!" Yes, oldest AD and I used to watch Beavis and Butthead faithfully!

Any chance of making a meeting today? Are you doing any reading out of the Big Book? Got a sponsor?

I'm sorry Freedom, but I find 98% of the Big Book to be religious nonsense. I go to AA only for the social support. I'm not sure if I'll get into Spokane today or not. It's a possibility...

No need to apologize, I was just asking! The only thing I remember about my first year is that a spatula would have been nice most of the time because I was on the ceiling-either that or I was on a sub-cellar level! My moods were all over the place. I was just plum nuts. For me, it was meetings, meetings, meetings. I finally started to halfway level out after that first year...I think.

The difficulty I have with meetings is that for me they can be a double edged sword. Atheist are usually not well received, especially in places like Eastern WA. Of course, there's a whole chapter dedicating to converting the atheist & agnostic. It's like the fundamentalists who want to "fix" gay people. But in AA, I could be a transexual midget dating my mother and be more accepted... and maybe get on Jerry Springer.

My perspective on addiction is expressed in an upcoming LifeRing publication. I started a thread about it in the Secular Connections forum: http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...ml#post2016724 (Empowering Your Sober Self: Excerpts)

That's cool. I was raised in a strict Catholic home. I have my views on organized religion, but will keep those to myself. I practice spirituality in my home, not religion. The AA group was my higher power for a long time. I can only share what my personal experience has been, and what has worked for me. :ghug

The people who came to the Alcoholism forum form the AA forum to support me are not gonna see this thread where it's been moved to, and there were quite a few...

I think Carol put a 'redirect' in the Alcoholism forum so we could find you here. Do'nt worry, we'll look til we find you! ![]() Give your animals a scratch on the neck or a tummy rub for me! My beagirl is a tummy-rub-junkie, can't get enough. It's amazing she still has hair on her tummy after ten years of tummy-rubbing daily!

I went to a meeting this afternoon and the topics were 'powerlessness' and 'a loving God'... this dude shared that he was an atheist and that prayer and meditation never did anything for him, and that he is only powerless if he takes a drink. An open rationalist at an AA meeting, OMFDK. I can't wait to hear him share again...

We have atheists at our group. Are they rare in your area or something? I had to smile the other night because you know what one guy said his higher power was? A door knob! I was tempted to ask him if he knew you, but I behaved.

People use trees, waves, the ocean, nothingness, electricity, any power greater then themselves, as we discussed on the phone, ...other then a few practicing Buddhists I couldn't really tell you about what religion hardly anyone is in the AA meetings I go to because it's spiritual, not religious, two completely different animals. I know like 20 Buddhists off the top of my head and maybe a few more christians out of thousands of people I see around, and myself, a wiccan, a Buddhist, an atheist, an agnostic, and even a christian of the bible thumpin variety can go to dinner after the meeting and completely agree on the spiritual principals outlined in the Big Book. Just an idea, but why not try letting the whole "aversion" to the whole "god" concept go a little bit, I just don't see it as being helpful to you, I mean if what you have been doing for the last three years hasn't been working, why not at least try something new? Just an idea, I mean try using "Oblivion" or "Nothingness" for your "God" like we discussed on the phone maybe? All I'm suggesting is trying to be a bit open minded ...also, why not ask Mr Rational to sponsor you and take you through the steps, it sounds like he has what you want, sobriety and the balls to share about being "rational" in a meeting, I mean hell Doorknob, there is a good enough reason to get sober right there, so you can go to meetings and share how you have 800 years of sobriety and didn't need to damned God lol. What can it hurt? You may even wind up sober, happy, joyous and free.

I haven't been trying to stay sober for all of the last 3 years, just a couple short lived attempts. It would be nice to rack up some sober time and share my experience at AA meeting, but it would be nicer to get a few LifeRing meetings starting in the Greater Spokane Area.
