| JUST DO IT!! |
Since I have been clean this time, I really haven't put any effort into actually writing down the steps, working them on paper. I have really been fearing it, not because I don't want to do it, but because I am an all or nothing guy (imagine that) and it seems like every other time that I jump right into it then I start this cycle of thinking that I need to hurry through it to get things done. However I have been working step one on my relationship/sexual stuff that I missed out or wasn't very thorough earlier this year when I relapses. I have been doing that through counseling and yet I find myself today working on it the way that my sponsor has told me to do. I guess that I need to make myself accountable for starting the steps and to make sure that I continue doing them. I have never really had anyone in my time in the program that has actually sat down with me and showed me how to do this stuff. They would say stuff like "Go write what you are powerless over, write down what drugs (alcohol is a drug) have taken from you, write down this or that." It seems like no matter what I write I am writing the same things over and over and over again. So how has your sponsor worked you through the steps, I know it is outlined in the book, is that how that it is done, or do your sponsors actually sit down and guide you into this new way of life to teach you how to do it? I am really confused, I guess I probably am not making much sense so any feed back will be nice. Love Vic

Basically what I got out of the first step the last time working it with my sponsor is that it is about honesty, remaining honest with myself and staying humble. I really like the NA step working guide b/c it is structured and it hits on all major points and concepts of each step, breaking them down individually. It forces me to be really really thourough and if I do it honestly with a good sponsor it helps me change my attitudes and behaviors. Keep on keeping on Vic, there is no magic way to work the steps, just stay honest, openminded and willing....with a little humility and trust in the process thrown in...
