| Like A Loud Alarm Clock..... This is good about the 12 steps.... Like a loud alarm clock, the 1st step bings us to semi-consciousness- although at this point, we may not be sure whether we want to climb out ot bed or maybe sleep for just 5 more minutes. The gentle hand shaking our shoulders as we apply the 2nd and 3rd steps causes us to stand up, stretch and yawn. We need to wipe the sleep out of our eyes to write the 4th step and share our 5th. As we work the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th, we begin noticing a spring in our step and start of a smile on our lips. Our spirits sing in the shower as we take the 10th and 11th steps, then we practice the 12th step leaving the house in search of others to awaken. Love it! Man, I gotta tell ya - it's the STEPS that keep me clean. I could get clean (and did - many, many, MANY times ), but doing the work is what has kept me there. That's where the real growth and change comes from, IMO. I could go to meetings for the rest of my life and probably learn a lot. But until I put my own pen to my own paper and do the step work, I am just a walking mess. Trust god, clean house, help others. Somebody sure got that right! Thanks for sharing, recoveringangel. Good to see you!
