I crave everyday, almost all day. Usually I take a couple of deep breaths and count to 10. Saying "God Thy Will be done, not mine" three times usually works. I know that I crave to remind myself who I am AN ADDICT. What do you do? Alyson |

I try to remember exactally why I got clean. I remember the last time I used and how I was feeling then. I remember being dope sick and suicidal. As long as we remember where we came from, we never have to go back. I also like the serenity prayer and 3rd step prayer, they usually relax me when I realize that somethings are out of my control and they are safely put in my HP's.

Yup - the spiritual connection is what gets me through those ugly cravings. I also take a look at my program and see where I need to re-connect. Do I need more meetings? To reach out to another addict? To get busy on my step work? Or, how about read more literature? I often find my cravings hit me when I am Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired - HALT. Back to basics, ya know? The thing I found that gave me the most hope when I came into recovery (or came to in recovery? ) was - "You never have to use again - even if you WANT to." Whew. What a freaken relief that is!

I think it's very important to TELL SOMEONE. If I can't get to a meeting and share it right away, I would pick up the phone and call another addict to talk about it. "Telling on my disease" goes a long way toward defusing those cravings. Glad you're here, Alyson!! Keep coming back!! Love and hugs, Eddie
