After reading all the posts about triggers as in COPS it made me think of this phenominon. I find myself renting DVD's that have to do with addiction. Sid&Nancy or Trainspotting or the likes. A lovely musical would be a better choice. I purposely get books out of the library that also follow that. That one Naked Lunch or any biography of a dope fiend. I know all about Miles Davis's life. I have tons of books on Charlie Parker etc. I just have recently pulled down posters in my room of Miss Billie, and Chet Baker, and even Frida Kahlo who had suffered a severe accident thus being on opiates for life. Why would I do this? Why wouldn't I pick up The Sound Of Music or Gypsy? Why my pull to Jazz/Blues of only addicts? |

Thats a good question nodope.I think its ok to watch these movies if its not a trigger.I started another thread in general recovery called "Recovery movies" Some of the movies I listed didnt really have anything to do with recovery.I guess watching some of these movies like "Leaving Las Vegas","The Rose","Drug store cowboy" etc. all ended badly showing whay drugs and alcohol can do.This reminds me of where I have been and where I could very easily be again if I am not careful.

One of my favorite movies from the 80's was Less that Zero, coke addict dies in the end. Alot of the music I listen to, Hendrix, Janis, The Doors. Its Ironic, but there is an identification there. Addicts have talent, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton and A Bunch of others got clean and still made it too. Not sure where I'm going with this, but its not wrong to watch some of the stuff, if there is no trigger, mabe seeing the reality of it all. I remember being in rehab in 87, I saw Joe Walsh on a night show, he was wasted, and I thought, I use to look that screwed up, I noticed it wasn't even funny, it was kind of annoying. Todd J.
