I get nervous when ever I speak. Before I speak, I close my eyes and pray. I ask God to take me out of the way. To let me deliver a clear message of recovery. To use me as a vehicle for spreading the message of hope. I always count on God to get me through speaking. Something I posted in WIR that fits here: "If God brought you to it, He will bring you through it." Go rock their worlds!!!

Hey Chris: I've heard it said that every speaker has 3 stories. The one they plan on telling - The one they actually tell - And the one they wish they had told!! I always ask my Higher Power to let me speak the truth. If you share from your heart, you can't go wrong. All the best to you, cj |

yup, exactly what cj and NA mommy said. only sort of combined.... Every recovery speaker has 3 stories .. the one they planned on telling, the one they wish they had told, and the one God used then to tell THis is what helped me get over my troubles with critiquing myself too much. For a couple days before I speak and on my way to speak, my head is filled with all the wonderful stuff, I think is important, that helped me and that might help someone else. Then I usually get to where I am speaking and get a little nervous and confused. Then I ask God to help me carry the message as best I can just for today, and let him decide who needs to hear what. I just have to "suit up and show up" God helps me say what someone needs to hear. Every one of us in recovery has the unique abilty to say or phrase something in a way that reaches someone who might not get "it" from someone else. For me that's God's way of helping us all stay in the spirit of anonymity. You'll do fine. Just be yourself, and be honest. The people who make the greatest impression on me speaking are the people who aren't trying to make a personal impression, but have that fire of gratitude for NA. |

I sometimes can find myself feeling like yourself.Even with alot of time in the recovery process. When I think that there's more to give than just my own experience. Our true value as people comes from our ability to be ourselves.Relax and allow your Higher Power to speak through you @ you will be okay. Thanks For Sharing LIVINCLEAN

Hey Chris; You will do great, as everyone else had said God will speek thru you. You turned your Will and Life over to His care and He is not know for letting us down. To fight the fear of "Nothing comming to my mind" it's all right to bring a paper with you to help keep yourself on topic. This is your first time and being scared is normal, after 5 1/2 years I still try to get out of it, but God and my sponsor never lets me. Relax and enjoy it, you will be glad you went thru with it...Peace my Brother.

You'll do fine. My experience has been that whenever I speak, if I don't think about it before hand, ask my Higher Power to speak through me to make sure I carry a clear message of recover, saying no more and no less than what's needed, it works out fine. Whenever I've gone in with a pre-planned 'this is what I'm gonna say' approach, I've done horribly. Just go in there asking your HP for help and you'll do great! 'Let it be.' ![]() 'One life you go to do what you should.'
