Lost a friend to the disease

Jails, institutions and death are the things we get when we use. I met someone in detox that used to always say that death was the only thing left out there for him, as he had already been to several jails and institutions. Why did he do it? He had 9 months clean, and went back out about 3 weeks ago. They found him Monday morning, beaten so badly that they couldn't even recognize him. They found a crack pipe laying next to his body. He went into emergency surgery Tuesday morning and he died last night. What a reality check. Some people think they can go back out for a little while, then come back. This goes to show that it doesn't always happen that way. We go back to using just like we did before we came to NA, and we play roulette with our lives. I'm so sad for his family. I just wanted to remind everyone that we have a disease that is fatal, if we don't put it in remission, and live day by day, not using, we could die from it. I'm glad I have found a new way of life, and a new group of friends. Be good to yourselves, and remember DON'T PICK UP!

Sherry

Sher,

My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family of your friend.

We all have another run in us, but we are not guaranteed another chance at recovery.

Unhappy So Very Sorry

Sherry:

I am so very sorry that you have to face the death of a friend - especially one who died in active addiction. It is very sad that, for an addict, this is a stark reality.

Although your spirit may be saddened at this time, I hope you won't let it drag you back down. From the way you talk, I can see that you have a strong desire to stay clean and free. Hold on to that as tightly as you can and it will be what sees you through.

Thoughts and Prayers For You Today,
cj

Thank you again for all the support and prayers. That's why I love SR. In times of need, there is so much support here. We have a common bond that keeps us connected. I will not use over this, that would serve absolutely no purpose. You might say it has kept me clean, for I don't want to test the waters. It's easier to stay clean, then to get clean!
