For years I've been playing the game with Joe, hoping that after today he might see the light. He has used meth for so long I think that being high seems normal to both him and myself, it is very hard to know when he is high or not high. After her crashes and rests a few days he always seems very normal but quite lucid. It is hard to see any evidence of a great need to get more drugs at this short period of time. What is this sugar thing. I've seen him get up and eat candy, ice cream or anything high in sugar content. What does coming down off meth have to do with someones blood sugar? And eat. I've seen days when it seems like he is putting food in his mouth almost constantly. There have been days when it is really apparent that he's high, I guess they call it tweaking. after which he'll usually crash. Does the purity or ingredients of meth have anything to do with his ability to "maintain"? I dont know for sure (since I do not live with him), but I think he sleeps alot, at whatever point he is in his using cycle. Can a long term meth addict do the drug and then sleep? I recall one point in time when I confronted him about the meth he remarked "its either that or get fat". I later found a bottle of some type of animal steroids like you might get from a vet, or use on cattle. I think it came from Mexico. Why would a meth user use steroids? What would be the purpose? These are a few questions I had over the years but never found the place to ask. I would welcome any help! :slap:

I have heard that many do crave the sweets, but also don't have enough info on meth addiction. If anyone out there has first hand knowledge please respond

I know most addicts love chocolate but I guess candy would also do the same. I red that when your coming down you are craving for your brain to release more pleasure sensing chemicals like it was overly doing when you were high. and candy, ice cream and especially chocolate releases those chemicals in the brain. so if you think about it, if we got high off the chemicals in our own brain then meth would be just using our own minds against us. pretty tricky piece of s--t drug "Hu". |

There is an article about sweets and meth, especially when coming down or getting clean. I read it when J was first getting clean and thought it was so strange because he never eats sweets...well he had been clean about 2 days and he came home and I asked him if he had eaten that day...he said yes...3 snickers a crunch bar and 2 kitkats...I just sat there with my jaw hanging open and said huh?? And then showed him waht I had printed out about meth and sweets and withdrawl stuff...we were both shocked and surprised about it. If I can find the site I'll post a link to it. As far as a meth user being able to sleep...I suppose there are recoverying addicts that can answer that one better, but J did use and was able to sleep..now granted sometimes it was only for a few hours but he could sleep...sometimes he would wake up still high though.

Hi, My daughter (now 18) was using meth for five years before I found out about 10 months ago. She would seem "normal", albeit her moods would swing and she was either very happy or very cranky. She slept sometimes for three days straight - we even had her evaluated by a sleep clinic. She is a bit overweight, and would sometimes just sit down and eat and eat ... I thought she might have an eating disorder. But she didn't have any of that - she was just an addict. Endorphins are the brain chemicals that work in our pleasure center of our brain and are what make us feel good. Meth destroys the receptor sites for some brain chemicals like endorphins, so I can see why a meth addict would have a craving for something that releases endorphins....so I think what Dan-o said makes sense - endorphins are released from eating sweets and chocolate - and they are released almost immediately. I know while in rehab, my daughter was angry and depressed for WEEKS. She is still not feeling very "good" and has been clean for about 40 days. I've been told all addiction (all drugs and alcohol) is progressive. So my daughter's use finally increased to the point where WE figured it out... and this year she started picking at her skin, losing her hair and having at least one hallucination. She also had appendicits and some weird cold sore on her tonsils thing that scared the bejabbers out of us... stuff that I think began to happen because she had somehow compromised her immune system. But for five years, we thought everything was "normal". BigSis |
