| new to suboxone
Hello, I posted somewhere else but have not received any replies, so I will post here. I was using oxycontin for over 2 years, started because of a back injury/ surgery. I went from simple oxycodone 5 mg which progressed to oxycontin 80 mg twice per day. Numerous times I would be out of the pills because I used them to fast, doc would not refill them, etc. and I would have terrible withdrawls ! I heard about buprenorphine and found a doc, was prescribed suboxone, and have been on that for 3 days now, which works great ! I would like to know if anyone else here has been in the same boat as me, and would like to know the pro's and con's of suboxone. please reply, thanx |

:lumpy Jake, I can't give you any info on suboxone, but I can offer you hope. You are taking the right steps towards recovery. I would encourage you to find a therapist as well, to help you with the emotional aspects of recovery and detox and also think about NA. There you will find lots and lots of support to help you through this time. Keep posting and I am sure someone out there has to have some good info for you.

Suboxin helps withdrawal very well. I came off alot of Abuse from the oxycontin and percocet, were cold turkey would have been a living hell, which detox was too, but that shot in the ass was welcomed every 12 hours for relief. I take it you are on the outside and you desolve it in your mouth, same thing. If you are on suboxine to get clean and stay clean it is good. But to use it everytime you run out of meds., I don't think that would be wise. The efect of the suboxine will not work after awhile. Besides if you are using suboxine and use, that can be thrown into your face a few different ways. NA is available to you if you want to get clean and find a new way of life.

Thanks for the reply's. I do not and will not take any narcs while I am on the suboxone, I don't want to go thru more withdrawls ! So far it has worked great for me. I feel absolutely no withdrawl symptoms since I started taking it, actually 30 minutes after I took my first dose in the Dr's office. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to get off of narc's, whether they are addicts because they like to get high, or because a doc prescribed pain meds and they became addicted, or they have been on them for a long time and when they stop taking them, they go thru withdrawls. The bottom line is the person has to WANT to quit the viscious cycle ! Thanks, jake38 |

Jake, I have been on suboxone several times to detox off other opiates. You are right, it works quite well to alleviate any WD symptoms. Do you plan to stay on it for a while, or are you doing a short taper and detox? I am glad you are beginning the journey to get clean. I will say that although the suboxone works quite well to make you feel OK and block cravings while you are taking it, once you stop taking it, the cravings come back, in a big way. That's where you need some kind of program, NA, AA, or whatever, to get you through. At least I did. Also, once you stop the suboxone, you can expect some mild WD symptoms, nothing like cold turkey. They usually hit about 4-7 days after your last suboxone dose, and last for less than a week. Insomnia, depression, anxiety and restlessness were the worst for me. But again, they were mild compared to cold turkey WD. Forewarned is forearmed. Good luck with your recovery program! I wish you success. Ashley |
