My mom is 82 and cannot drive herself around. It's made things sort of sticky trying to land and hold down a day job as I need to make sure she gets to dr's appts and stuff. Recently found out my very first sponsor needed a helper on the job. I told him right up front about mom. He asked me if I usually know ahead of time well enough in advance so that he could plan to work around days I might need time to transport her. I said "no problem there" and wed we gave it a try to see if we could mutually benefit each other. Seemed to work out pretty good. Thursday my mom had a docs appt. he knew about this so it was no problem and he was getting ready to set another job up. When she came out of the docs, she tells me that she needs to go back Friday afternoon. I thought oh great. Then she tells me they are going to set her up for an MRI next week. I'm thinking .."what a nightmare I just got set up to get back to work and here we go allready." On the way home I stopped to pick her up a prescription and started to ask my higher power to "intervene with His clear will for all of our sakes". I got home and there was a message to call the boss. First thing I told him was that mom had a docs appt. Friday and another as yet unscheduled appt. for next week. He said "doesn't look like you are going to be available then" I said well what have you got set up so far. He says Monday theres a job out of town. I asked if he needed me today and he said "nope didn't get anything big set up so I'll handle it ok" Trace has Mondays off, and she just got word she has been hired for a position where her week day hrs will be some days and some evenings. She starts that end of the month. So far so good. How much clearer can things be for now? As of yet I don't even know how much I'm getting paid. Have you ever liked someone enough so that working with them is a pleasant enough experience you forgot to worry about getting paid? |

Hiya Gooch! I never cease to be amazed at the way things work out, especially when we ask for help. Not always the way we think they will, but usually in ways far better than we could ever manage. Even a little faith can take us a long way. I'm glad things are working out for you!

Gooch, I am glad that good things are coming your way. It's a lesson for me - I need to let go of the fear and start to trust. Things do have a way of working out, but it's hard to see that when you are always focused on the "worst-case scenario." I am about to get a new boss, someone I like and respect, and I am trying to trust that it will be just what I need right now in my recovery. My current situation is not particularly good for me - too much unstructured time on my hands. Thanks for sharing that - funny how it was what I needed to read today. Ashley |

can relate to the part about liking someone so much that pay isn't important. when i took my job 10 years ago i accepted and didn't know how much i was making till my first pay check. i consider my boss to be one the truest friends i will ever have (she's a social worker, go figure). also a very understanding boss through all the stuff going on with my ad. knows my past better then i do and is ok with that too. glad to here that things are working out for you. |
