| JFT July 19th Fulfilling our Dreams
JFT July 19 - Fulfilling Our Dreams "Dreams that we gave up long ago can now become realities." Basic Text, p. 68 All things begin with a dream. But how many of us fulfilled our dreams while using? Even if we managed to complete something we had started, our addiction usually robbed us of any pride in our accomplishment. Perhaps when we used, we dreamed of the day when we would be clean. That day has come. We can use this day to make our dreams come true. To fulfill our dreams we must take action, but our lack of self confidence may keep us from trying. We can begin by setting realistic goals. The success we experience when we attain our initial goals allows us to dream bigger dreams the next time around. Some of our members share that when they compare the ambitions they had when they first got clean with what they have actually achieved in recovery, they are astounded. In recovery, we often find more dreams come true than we could ever have imagined. Just for today: I will remember that all things begin with a dream. Today, I will allow myself to make my dreams come true. pg. 109 Just For Today Daily Meditation is the property of Narcotics Anonymous© |

Peace, I remember new to the program and my sponsor asking me to make a list of what I wanted out of recovery. I laugh when I think about it because I wanted so many material things!! Well, I don't have any of those things that I put on that list, but what I do have is beyond my wildest dreams... When I was using, all I ever dreamed about was how to be successful and still shoot dope. I thought that I had figured it out at one point, only to find out that once again, I got what I always got... In recovery I found out that anything is possible. I mean if I can stop using, lose the desire to use and find a new way to live, what can't I (we) do. Where my life is today, I could never have dreamed of (while using)... No, I don't have a lot of wealth, but I have a connection with people. I am a part of the human race today and I never felt a part of anything when I was using... I have felt what it is like to be loved unconditionally. My children think that I am the greatest dad in the world. My wife told me that I was her hero... Imagine that. An old, greasey dope-fiend like me. I am gonna keep on dreamin' Peace

I like this meditation. Always have. When I first got clean, all I dared to imagine was MAYBE getting a little room in a rooming house with a hot plate, a low paying job to pay the rent and the opportunity to visit my kids on the weekends. After being homeless and worthless for so long that seemed like a lot. Today, I have so much more. Not just the house and the job, but I have full custody of my kids, I have had a 4th child in recovery, I have a man who loves me and has never laid a hand on me, I have a great job, most impotant, I have a connection with a Higher Power that allows me to love myself today and to dare to have bigger dreams.
