| Locked up and looking for a sponsor!
I am currently in jail in Michigan and am from Minnesota. I will be going back to Minnesota jail and released soon. I have been very active in recovery and am planning on going to meeting first thing when I get out. My goal is to get a NA sponsor in Minnesota that I can correspond with. My problem is that Iam having a problem finding a way to do that. Any ideas at all are very appreciative. I know a sponsor is going to be a major factor in my recovery. Thank T.V. (Travis)

Hi and welcome! Glad you found us. I would use this time to read, study, and reflect. There is no hurry in finding a sponsor as it's best to wait until you get to a meeting to find just the right one. In the meantime, please join us at our online meetings if you would like to do so. |

Peach to you travis. mike addict here, welcome to the board. I really feel for ya man, I was just released from prison my self in dec. still stuck on house arrest here, but only for a few more weeks. sounds like you've got some great goals and it's awesome you are able to work on your recovery on the inside. I abstained reluctantly while locked up and drank my first night out. been on this sober train ever since, coming up on 5 months. Im sorry i don't have advice on you getting a sponser just yet, but hopefully others will. Just be patient my friend. I know when i was locked up I had all these ideas of what i was going to do and what was going to happen once i was released. Things dont always go exactly the way we plan them, but they can be better if we stay clean. Im just sharing this with you because things can be very overwhelming at first, and for me I couldn't look to far ahead. It sounds like you have a great attitude about your recovery, keep it up. By the way they got computers where you are? dang your lucky. keep us posted. mike

Travis, I agree with mike, you are lucky to have computer access. I'll share with you the same thing I share with any other newcomer. Get to a meeting, pick up the Sponsorship Pamphlet (orange), read it and try to find someone you can relate to, and who seems reasonably happy with their life. Get your hand up and share that you want help. The right person will be placed in your life. Love ya Laurie D. |

Welcome Travis!! You will find one face to face. When you hear someone share, you will know, he's the one. It's awesome you have computer access. I carry an H & I meeting in our local jail and I'm sure if they could they'd be here at the sober community on the internet too. Keep Coming Back!

Welcome Travis. You must have been a good inmate to have computer access. Attend any meetings you can while your in there, if not available, make sure you get to one as soon as you get out. Very important. Good Luck
