| Losing Our Defects We're not exactly garden variety personalities. We constantly demand and require attention and would die if we discovered we were not the center of a few lives. Often we want reassurances that we are coming across as the generous, honorable people we are striving to become. But soon we realize that our character defects and self-centeredness still plague us. When we occasionally get a glimpse of how others truly see us, it is a dreadful and painful experience. Were it not for the loving attitude of our fellow addicts, many of us could not endure it. But the growth process is worth the pain as we find out we are gradually becoming the generous, honorable people that we want to be. Am I rid of my defects? As the pain produces growth, I thank you, Lord, for the love that shines from my fellow addicts. Today I will work on self centeredness by: God help me to stay clean and sober today!
