2 NA Questions....

I have my first meeting this Thursday.

1-Im not very religious. I mean I was raised going to church a lot and all, but about 10 years ago I felt it was a fraud and its really up to ourselves in this world ant "God". But I do believe in a higher power. I cant define who that is though.

Will this cause a problem in my meetings? I mean, Im not going to say that to anyone, those are just my own personal thoughts.

2-How does a meeting usually go? I mean you get there and do you introduce yourself to the crowd? Do you tell them your story?

Hi Ric, welcome.

1) I am not religious either. I was never raised in church nor do I feel like I need church to reach my Higher Power. I too believe in a Higher Power that I can't define either but I know it's loving, caring and wants the best for me.

2)Meetings vary, sometimes there will be an open-discussion meeting, where people will discuss how they are doing in their recovery. Some meetings are step-study meetings where we talk about the 12 steps and 12 traditions. Some meetings are speaker meetings where you will hear people's story. Keep an open mind, get there early, get phone numbers, stay late and hang on for the best ride of your life.

I'm glad you are going to a meeting. I am confident that it will be a relief to learn that you are not alone in this. You will find people who truly understand and can help because they've been there, too.

Just show up and be open. It's that simple.
