hi iam 20 years old and my boy friend(22) and my sons father is addicted to oxys and hydromorphine he wants to get off them but he does not want to go to detox he wants me to help him do it. is this a bad idea? what should i expect when he is detoxing? thank you

Welcome to SR, Shana.

Opiate withdrawal is hard and it is no fun. Basically it is like having a really bad flu - cold sweats, runny nose, muscle aches, the runs, tiredness, and insomnia and depression that will last for awhile after the acute symptoms are done. It's dangerous, but not usually life threatening. Ibuprophen and hot baths help a lot as does exercise. The first week is usually the worst.

There you will find people who understand what you are going through with a loved one who is an addict.
