I'm in a flare from one of my conditions, and in a few days, I know that I will have recovered from it. It follows a pattern. Sometimes because I'm stubborn and sometimes because circumstances put me in a position where I do things I know are going to aggravate me, I have these flares. They won't kill me; they just make me miserable for a few days to a week. My addiction, on the other hand, will kill me if I do things which bring the symptoms out of remission. Therefore, I have recovered from active addiction, but I still have the disease of addiction lying dormant in me. That dormant state is dependent upon my willingness to practice a program of recovery which helps me to head off a spiritual state (or lack thereof) that results in the symptoms (using) returning. I am recovered from active addiction. I am still an addict, and I still require treatment if I have the desire to be symptom-free. I had the desire to stop using and I have the desire to stay stopped. So I take the treatment to maintain my recovered state. Peace & Love, Sugah

Thanks for all your responses. the reason i ask is, in 2nd edition basic text (fellowship approved) suggests addicts are recovered, so it made me wonder why WS would change it what is the Narcotics Anonymous program. 2nd edition We are recovered addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean. 5th edition We are recovering addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean. just wondered how you all felt

I will spend the rest of my life recovering... there will not come a time when I have ever fully recovered. And for that, somehow, I am grateful.

recoverED ---- is past tense, meaning there's nothing more to do recoverING ---- is present tense, meaning you're 'doing the do'.
