1) HOPE - when I first came in the rooms, I truly thought the only way out of active addiction was death. By seeing other people with 3 days, 3 months, 3 or 30 years clean, I thought, "well, if they can do it, maybe - just maybe, so can I." 2) FREEDOM FROM ACTIVE ADDICTION - in active addiction I had NO choices. Recovery gave me my choices back - to not put that first drug into my body, to put recovery first, to go to a meeting, work the steps, use the tools. 3) MY LIFE - I have no life in active addiction. Active addiction leads to jails, institutions and death for me. It's inevitable. I have a chance in recovery. I have a program for living. Things can and do get better.
