Alcohol A Drug

Anyone knows that if you take the water out of alcohol it is ether! So, if you are not clean (alcohol is a drug) then you have nothing that I would want. So many times people in AA are on a Marijuana Maintenance Program and considers themselves clean, however if you ask a counselor and addict or what not they would tell you they have nothing. I agree, if I don't abstain from the dope (alcohol is dope) than I would be in a world of hurt. Just my 2 cents.

NA states very clearly that we abstain from ALL mind and mood altering substances, including alcohol which is also a drug. That is the guideline I use for my clean time. Personally, I am not clean unless I am sober and I am not sober unless I am clean.

Beyond that, I really think this is an issue for the individual to come to terms with within themselves and maybe their sponsor. It is between every person and their god and not my place to judge. Again, I am speaking personally.

I know that when I was first in the rooms, I did not believe I had to abstain from ALL drugs because I thought alcohol was not my problem. Unfortunately, I, like many others, had to learn the hard way. I had to be dropped to my knees by alcohol, cough syrup, cocaine and other drugs that I thought were not a problem.

Today I try really hard to learn from other people's example and not think that I have to try everything out for myself.
