Quit Knockin' NA/AA 12 steps

I am really tired of post on this discussion board from people knockin' NA/AA 12 steps. If you don't like it, leave it, and take your posts to another discussion board. This discussion board is clearly marked "Narcotics Addiction-12 Step Support."

There are some people who really need this particular discussion board to help them stay clean and mentally well and look forward to learning about sharing messages with people who want to work a 12 step program for recovery from addiction.

I for one, am not really knocking them for others...I am just saying they are not right for me. There is another section in this forum that says women in recovery if I go there and talk about being clean not using NA, when most of them use 12 step programs does that mean that I sholdn't post there either?

AA had it's place with me and helped me tremendously through the bad times. I actually enjoyed going to AA- I stop in once in a while to attend a meeting or just to say hello.

I really don't go very often anymore. Not because of people who I dislike or anything pertaining to the program. It just got to the point where I was there every night at 7:30 sharp. I listened and shared. It's selfish at a time when one needs to be selfish. I now spend more time with my wife and children- and yes, that is also selfish.

I have no idea if I completed the 12 steps. I never "graduated from AA" One never does "graduate" I am an alcoholic for life.

What works for me is what works for me. What works for you is what works for you.

"Rarely has a person failed who has thoroughly followed our path" AA/NA live by these principles. Each day we wait to get into the steps we are dying from the disease of addiction. I turned my life to the care of God, without questioning His credentials, I don't ask airline pilots for credentials when I get on a plane so why should I doubt God.

The 'Substance Abuse' forum, one floor up, is generic in terms of methodology, and probably a better place for discussions outside the tenets of 12-Step recovery.

Of course not, Inspiringmind. You're more than welcome to post in WIR.

Yup.

Anyone can post ANYWHERE at SR. I see REZ' point, though, too. If someone is blatantly anti-12 step, why do they post in the blatantly 12-step forums? To start an argument? To try to get people to believe differently (hopeless, IMO)? Because they are new and don't realize that we have multiple forums yet? To get a different perspective? I dunno....

I personally support ANY form of recovery that helps people to stop drinking and drugging and STAY stopped. I am also, hopefully, respectful, courteous and kind enough not to judge others' recovery negatively.

How does that go again... when I have something to say, do I first check to see if it is kind, truthful and necessary?

Well here we go again, another contravesy! Yep I have had several people from SR that go to twelve step Programs such as NA that have PM'ed me to tell me the reason they don't post here is because of all of the BS that goes on in this forum. You know very seldom does any other forum here have such contravesty.

What I have been practicing with all of this is that we are all entitled to our own opinions, we don't have to like them but we do have to accept them as for what they are. The controversy that started a few months back and with the Name change on the forum, has really hurt this forum. It really saddens me because there are so many people that want help through the NA Way and now it is like they even fear to post here because of all the outside issues.

Anyone that belongs to NA will defend what they believe in. I know that I couldn't do it without NA. I have faith in this program and the people here. I hope that someday there will be a solution! I actually think that there is a solution, put the forum name back to NA 12 Step Recovery Forum, unofficial, and then maybe we need to start using the ignore button on those people who keep putting down the NA Program or maybe it might be a good idea to have the moderators delete the post that obviously are starting conflict.

One thing also that we need to remember is that we are all SICK people! Maybe look at those SOB's as sick people and pray for them! Don't know but I have even had people that have NEVER EVER posted that have PM ed me to get help because they were scared to post here.

If the 12-steps work for you then by all means use it. I find good things in all paths. The 12-steps and religion never worked for me....but thats just me. I never really understood the 12 steps. I reckon I'm too stupid. Being a non-religious person I just can't grasp the program. I was never good at algebra either. But I ain't knockin' algebra. Aw heck, you know what I mean. Dontcha?

Hey windysan,
I've read some of your other posts and you're not stupid, IMO. I have a real high IQ, but I have always sucked at mathematics or any of the hard sciences. I do real well at literature, history, psychology, philosophy, comparative religion, things like that. And I read voraciously. Maybe you are like me, just wired differently.
