What would you do?

Your a GSR of a meeting. You just had a major snow storm. The police are advising unnessessary travel. The roads are slushy right now, but once you go to leave to open the meeting it would be dark and the roads would be completely icy. Sponser thinks that just cause she can get to work in her SUV 4 x 4 you should be able to open the meeting. (not a SUV or 4 x 4)Would you open it still?

Yeah, this is my perdiciment. The snow drift in front of my driveway is about 3feet deep and everytime the snowplow goes by it gets higher.

Oh yeah, I finally finished my 7th step and am working on my 8th step. Thanks to all of you who said I shoudl keep going!

I'd not go. Safety first. Nothing is worth a bad car crash on an icy road. I'd not care what others say. Just my $0.02.

Be safe.

I am also not in favor of going. Do you mean that you are chairing and opening up the meeting? Where I come from GSR's are responsible for going to the area meeting, not opening a local meeting.

Yeah, I do everything...there is no GSRA, No secretary or treasurer. I do it all. (small town) Plus, the place only allows me to have a key to the place to open the meeting, since most of the members are in treatment facilities an such. On top of that I am the Area Activities Chair, Unity Days Chair (Our biggest event of the year) and as of next month I am probably going to be the Vice Chair of our Area.

That's a no brainer in my opinion.

If you have a phone list, call those who attend and explian why you can't be there.

Im in Cheyenne right now. Ive seen the roads. They can be pretty bad at night. I would stay home. I did go to a meeting last night. Thursday night I chose not too because of the icey roads. And I have 4 wheel drive too. Doesnt help you stop any better. Nor does it keep someone from crashing into you. I noticed some of these people around here drive way too fast for the conditions.

I'm with everyone else. No reason to put yourself in harm's way. Let others know you won't be there.

It doesnt sound safe enough to go.
But if the 4x4 gives you comfort, ask the sponsor to give you a ride?

The roads have cleared up quite a bit, but a couple days ago they were pretty bad.

all i know is that i would have done ANYTHING to get my dope... one of the craziest things i remember during my active addiction was driving from my hometown to the city i worked in, about 40 miles away, to get my paycheck, which was tiny because of all the advances i'd gotten, getting some dope with the rest of the money, and heading out home. it took about 10 hours to get there cause of the ice, and it normally took about 1.

now just cause i was irresponsible in my addiction doesnt' mean i need to be irresponsible in my recovery... but in my early recovery i would have done anything to get to a meeting... today, thankfully, i just live about 1 mile from my homegroup, and i wouldn't let bad weather stop me, unless there was just no way. i'm one of the few people that will come to work at my work on 'snow days' when we don't have to, especially if i have things i need to do.
