| kinda scared about 1st na meeting
I plan on going to an na meeting everyday, maybe even twice a day. The question I have is that the meetings in my area are predominately "black" areas. I am a white girl with a college edu., but still hooked on drugs like anyone else. I'm just kinda nervous that the other people at the meeting might look down on me. Is there a black person going to meetings in the southwest detroit area? If so, what would you think about a little white girl showing up at the meeting? I really just need help like everyone else. I don't know if I have it better or worse, but I do have the same addictions.

Did skin color matter when you were buying? I think you answered your own question... Quote:

| Welcome to SR, beckymissy. Nope, addiction does not discriminate. I think you'll find that the people in meetings are for the most part open, honest and committed to recovery. I personally am nervous going to any new meeting alone, regardless of make-up. How about bringing a friend or looking for a woman's meeting? Or, call the NA hotline to ask about different meetings in your area?

The NA traditions say the only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using. Race makes no difference, as far as NA is concerned. Go with an open mind, and everything should be fine. If you are getting some bad vibes, you can try another meeting...

Addiction is not a discrimination. Everyone is likely to support you. Do not be afraid just do it for yourself and not anyone else. Alos, if you really have doubts about going to these meetings find someplace else. I

You'll be surprised when you go. The people really are great at these meetings. I met amazing people just the first time I went. You'll feel so much better the minute you walk in the door of your first meeting. Dont worry!

Try it and see. If the meeting is not a good fit, try a different one. I drive up to 20 miles to get to meetings at times. If I was going to limit myself to meetings within 5 miles of home, I would only get to go 3 times a week. I go everyday, sometimes twice. The groups are all very different but all good in their own unique way. Try a few before you make one your home group.

I can understand what you are saying but people in the rooms are great. I was scared to attend a meeting if you look back at my posts. When I arrived they greeted me with hugs and I have great friends in NA. I deprived myself from being happy, joyous and free by not going to meetings. Keep us updated
