Help!

My brother is in the hospital now for the second time in a month. I have a feeling it is meth related, but I know that there is mental health reason that is fueling his drug abuse. I believe that he has Borderline Personality Disorder, I'm not a doctor, but I think that may be what he is suffering from. I am dual diagnosed at age 25 with bipolar NOS, and alcohol abuse(which I have abstained). My previous diagnosis of depresion was eclipsed by my alcohol abuse, now that I have abstained, my psyciatrist diagnosed my with BP nos, but for 3 years I thought I may have BPD. My brother is 29, and I am waiting for the diagnosis. If anybody has any suggestions please respond

Only thing I can think of would be a talk with the Dr at the hospital and share with him/her what you just shared here. A history could maybe give them some thing more to look into.

I agree with best, speaking to his doctor or at least giving them a heads up may help. Have you ever tried talking to your brother about his depression? I was diagnosised with Borderline Personality about 6 years ago, and depression is a big part of BPD. Have you ever asked him about his drug use or been able to share your own expierences with him? What does he have to say? Has he ever been willing to accept any kind of help or treatment for the drug use and/or mental health part of it all?

Kshow,
I just wanted to say that I'm sorry that your brother has had to go to the hospital twice in a month. I hope that they get the right diagnosis for him so that they can properly treat him. Hang it there. This too shall pass.

I'm sorry for your trouble. Dual diagnosed is difficult to diagnose and treat. Sharing your background will definately help the doc.

What is bipolar NOS?

Shalom!

Bipolar NOS is some vague label they like to stick on ppl when they don't really know what's wrong.

Anyway I hope your brother will get some help for his problems.
