| Probably The Hardest Thing I'll Ever Do
Is kick the caffeine habit. Has taken a toll physically, mentally and emotionally. It is time to make a change. I just got the book Caffeine Blues and I am setting up all my vitamins and supplements. I have a target date of March 1st to start, but I may move it up as soon as I find some herbal coffee. I really need to do this and I know it might not be easy, but from everything I have read and heard, I eventually will feel like a new person. You know there was a time when I thought I could not live without booze either..................

Hi, My hubby cannot tolerate caffiene at all-it affects his mood in a bad way for about 2-3 days after having any, so he drinks herbal teas and cranberry juice (without sugar) alot. I do know that eating alot of fresh brightly colored veggies and fruits will help- not just for the headaches and cravings but for energy. Frozen is the next best- We make smoothies in our blender with- frozen blackberries, bananas- and whatever we feel like tossing in there- milk, yogurt, soy milk or ice. I have one or two cups of tea a day and that doesn't seem to be a problem - I suffer from fatigue so it jump starts my day. I used to be a coffeholic- craving it constantly- and colas too. Now I may have a cup or two of java if out to a restaurant for breakfast and I halve it with milk. We used to drink a coffee substitute called Postum- have you heard of it? I forget what's in it- it's like an instant coffee drink- supposedly been around for many years. good luck and "cheers" cmc |

Bozo...I have found a wonderful herbal coffee if you are interested I will look and see what the name of it is. The therapist I love so much introduced me to it and it's made from some kind of oriental mushroom that gives you a kick of about 4 cups of coffee and yet it has NO caffinee. It's really healthy and I like the taste of it, but it does taste a bit different.

Taper off slowly... good plan... Cause even caffeine has withdrawal.. And I certainly know about the p word.. ;o) Hey Gram... I'm pretty sure that Postum has chicory as well. Tried that for a while as well... I think I made it through a few cans before I gave up on it. |

I am not caffeine free now, but I can tell you that when I am I do feel better. It is a much harder substance to avoid than most would think. Because I have the coffee and cola bug, I would wean myself off on the percentage of coffee mixed with decaf (some are as good as and do not taste "off) until I was strictly decaf but would still drink coffee as much as I liked. I bought cases of the caffeine free cola. Often an extra for the trunk of the car, taking my drinks with me. Because commonly, you are going to be offered an alcoholic or caffeine beverage. Those office lunches get me, tea or cola? I really like the sleepytime and sleepytime extra herbal teas of an evening. Tolerance to caffeine develops very, very quickly. And we don't realize how jumpy, jittery our minds and body are....until the calm of being caffeine free up and surprises ya. my two cents, let us know, live

I'm curious about this topic... Other than being jumpy and jittery and such...what's bad about caffiene? How else does it affect us? Just wondering if you wouldn't mind educating me once again? Thanks,

I have this thing with coffee. It appears that I drink 3 pots a day. However, what happens is this: I pour a cup, take a few sips and it gets cold. I pour out the cold cup and refill, take a sip, and it gets cold... I'll bet I don't even drink an entire cup all day! It's like some kind of pacifier I have to have in my hand/mouth. I have been trying to quit smoking. I quit for 4 days and didn't even want any coffee.

I am drinking hot tea now, decaf. It feeds the psychological fix without the drug. Shutterbug, caffeine is really a complicated drug and has alot of side effects, some lasting or appearing 12 hours after ingestion! While it gives a stimulant boost, the pendulum swings and it results in greater fatigue, for one thing. It disrupts healthy sleep. Jitterbugs the mind and body.
