Post Is there anybody out there?

Hi, I've been checking into this board for the last several months and this is the most active it's been. I wish there was a board like Al-Anon for S.O.'s of Bi-Polar's. Surely there must be some of you out there. Being married to a Bi-Polar can be as stressful and scary and draining as being married to an alcoholic or drug addict. Post if you can relate. Please.

Hi, I can relate, but from the other side, I am an alcoholic, and have always had depression, so maybe I can help you understand the ups and downs. Sometimes when we are too close to a situation, all we do is get mad, we are tired of dealing with it, I know I feel this way about myself alot of the time lately, so maybe I can give you a different perspective on things. It helps so much to talk and not let your anger build up inside. I know I have taken my husband on a rollercoaster ride these last 10 years, but sometimes he is inconsiderate and doesn't understand how hard it is for me to deal with just LIFE at times. I have never been very well adjusted to life. lol Anyone, I would be happy to try to help you understand stuff here, or you can E-mail me Nedra39@aol.com This helps me too to talk about this annoying ****.

Thank you Terry. I really appreciated your post. Actually my concerns are not so much a need to understand depression or mania. I do pretty much get it after all this time. Just a wish for fellowship like I have in my Al-Anon group. Don't really see why S.O.'s of depressives or people with chemical mood disorders don't communicate with each other. Due respect - the view from this side of the fence is very different from your side.Chi

chi,
it would be interesting to know what your view from your side of the fence would be. I'm not trying to be nosy, but I wonder what ppl who don't have addiction or depression really feel towards others that do. I've had this all my life, and the other day a neighbor of mine came over and he was ****-faced wasted and I had to leave my own house. He wouldn't quit talking to my husband, rambling on about nothing, and I thought, this will be me in 20 years if I don't stop.
I think it would help you to talk to ppl on the alanon board, because alot of addicted ppl also have depression.

Chi:
Hi
I have lived with Bi-Polar disorder for many years, but really only got serious about taking care of myself 5 years ago.
The main problem is, it's fun being in Mania and Lithium is a drag. I always have to remind myself that my actions effect others, otherwise I am likely to ride the coaster once again.
Luckily, my better judgement has prevailed and I quit trying to play with the meds.

Hi MG
Has anyone had luck with Paxil to deal with the depression part? It works for me so far but my Doctor says it can cause Mania. It hasn't so far.
My cousin is a nurse and says long term Lithium can build up in bones and tissue
There are alternatives to Lithium, but I am afraid to mess with what is working.

Wilson,
I've been on prozac for 8 years and just started remeron with it about a month ago. I feel so much better, plus not drinking, I know the medication won't work if I drink with it. Never let myself realize this fact before.

Hi everybody, just wanna point out that nobody who is actually a S.O. of someone with a mood disorder has posted to me. Instead there are people who are depressives posting on various medications. Still don't get it. Where are these people who live with bi-polars? I do post to Al-Anon because my husband was recognized as being alcoholic within the last year or two. But that is at least two decades after he has been suffering daily with chemical imbalance. So this remains a significant issue. Would like to start a charity whereby we supply computers to wives and husbands of bi-polars so that they can enjoy fellowship with each other! Any takers? Chi

Chi,

Try asking the question on the GR board. Not a lot of people find their way over here.

Hugs,

MG

Chivapiano,

If you go to the website ivillagehealth.com there is a very good bi-polar message board there. Click on "Message Boards," at the top, then click on "Health," on the left. Go down to the "Psychology," heading, and you'll see the listing for the bi-polar message board.

People who have bi-polar, as well as SO's of people with bi-polar post there. Let me know what you think.

Juls

Hi there ((((((chivapiano))))))

My adult daughter is dual-diagnosed, meaning she is bi-polar and recovering addict. I attend Nar-anon meetings and although it is not specifically for bi-polar I have learned so much from the 12-step programs.

I don't believe I read anything about your S.O.
and drug use but you might want to check out the Nar-anon programs if he is. I am not sure if Soberrecovery has the Nar-anon meetings, but I am posting a link to an online meeting if you think you might be interested. Sunnygirl
