He told me bupropion was sometimes used in bipolar people to stabilize moods. He said to take the Lexapro in the morning and one bupropion. And take the other one about 8 hours after the first one.

Hey Kathy, did he put you on welbutrin? Or Eddie, isn't Bupropion welbutrin? Or isn't in welbutrin? Or is Bup. at whole separate medication? Thanks, Becky

Hmm...I think timing is crucial with the particular combination of meds you're on. That second dose of bupropion should probably not be taken past about 3PM. I used to take mine six hours apart at like 8AM and 2PM. Also, when are you taking the Lexapro? That I used to take at about 5PM and I think it helped with sleep that way. Talk to your pharmacist and/or doc about the timing and maybe something for sleep, OK? Love and hugs, Eddie |

I take the Lexapro in the morning. Even after no sleep, I don't feel sleepy just a little grumpy. I will try the bupropion a little earlier today. Yesterday I took it at 5PM. Thanks for the advice Eddie! We'll see what happens tonight. |

My experience with Lexapro was, after about 20 weeks on it, I felt sad more than depressed, couldn't sleep at night, gained about 10 lbs, and I seemed to peak out on the amount of help it gave me, so they switched me off of it. My experience with Zoloft: My daughter was on it when she was 16. She began having severe panic attacks, literally crying like every couple of hours, and couldn't stay awake. It got so bad for awhile that I had to get a cell phone so I could be available at any time of day while she was at school. She gained about 20 pounds on it. We finally realized it was the Zoloft and got her taken off. She tapered down pretty quickly, and her major side effects went away in about 2 to 3 weeks. She never lost the excess weight that went with it, and I swear she's never quite been the same since. She's 18 now. It's been about a year and 5 months since she's been off. There's just something missing. I can't put my finger on what it is, but it's very frustrating. I was also on Zoloft that same time period. This was after the Lexapro. It took a really long time to see any results, but when I did man oh man. I started gettiing anxiety attacks at night so bad I felt like my skin was crawling. I couldn't relax, couldn't sleep, and would pace the house making sure no one could see in. Then I realized I was feeling rageful every day around the same time, and I'd catch myself yelling at the kids, the cats, the dogs, the cobwebs, whatever. My overall mood seemed somewhat improved, but the negative side effects when they occured were outlandish. I tapered off as directed, and literally thought I was going to die. Every time I moved my head I'd hear this buzzing noise in my head, and everything seemed like it was in a fishbowl. I'd get vertigo (An abnormal sensation of rotation or movement of one's self, or the environment) when I stood up, and I was bone crushingly tired all the time. When all was said and done, I'd been on anti depressants for about 9 months, gained 30 pounds, and was worse off before I started them. I still have a lingering anxiety level that wasn't there before. I wholeheartedly believe that anti depressants work for most people. They just didn't work for my daughter and I. I had a friend on Lexapro and she also gained weight, but she got over her Post Partum Depression very well on it, and had no side effects going on or off besides the weight. She was on the lowest dose they had for the entire year she was on it.

I think that the use of SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors--don't ask me to explain what that means) is a lot of trial and error. I tried Zoloft first, five years ago, when I began having panic attacks. It worked well for me for a little while, then the doctor began having to increase my dosage and I developed a "tolerance" for it or something, so I switched to Effexor. Again, the same story. But I felt better after therapy and went off drugs altogether for two years. Then, last summer, I had a breakdown I guess. The anxiety was back in full force. I was prescribed Paxil, because it worked so well for my mother, I figured it would be great for me. Well, after increasing to 50 mg, the attacks have stabilized and I rarely have them anymore. It works better for anxiety than the other two. I'm happy with it for the most part, but the depression is getting bad again. But after six weeks or so, if you don't feel any better, talk to your doc. I hope everything works out well!
