I'm Roxann. I am bi polar, and the docs have me on tegretol and prozac right now for it, but are talking about switching me to Seraquel. Is anyone here on that? What is it like? I'd like to hear pros and cons.

I've never taken it myself, but I've seen it used many times with bi-polar patients and saw positive results. Here is a link that may help. http://www.seroquel.com/cons_bip/not...el/stories.asp |

HI I'm new here too and bipolar. I have never heard of the drug but Im from the UK and it seems treatment over here works a little differently. When I was younger I was prescribed an anti convusant in conjuntion with an anti depressant. It didnt really work for me and Im now on lithium which is really effective but can be quite difficult to stick with. I hope you find the thing that works for you. I have heard that some manic depressives contrle the illness through diet. I dont know the details of this and probably wouldnt advise even trying it but would be interested to hear any info anyone has on that one. I think it is important to find a doctor that will explain the details ofwhat he/she is prescibing you if at all possible. Good luck leanne. |

They prescribe alot of different meds for bi-polar and it really comes down to having a good relationship with your doctor and really listening to your body and giving the meds time to take effect. It can be a frustrating process... but once you get on something that works for you, things will take on a more even keel. Everyone reacts differently to meds so it is very unreliable to go on someone else's experience with a particular drug. Patience... is a good thing at this point. |

Medication is a slippery combination of dosage, metabolism, side effects, meds management, etc....all with the goal of providing a good 'fit'. Medicating is an invididual challenge, especially when you have to use multiple meds. Something that causes severe side effects for one person, will not produce them in someone else, and vice versa. The best thing I can suggest is to educate yourself as best as possible. Please be aware that there are some sites and references out there with an agenda, and it is best to only consult reputable publications. -pedagogue

I have decided have doing some research and talking with my therapist and psych. that I'm going to stay on what I've been on. When I first posted this, I was new in my reovery, and wasn't sure how much of what I was feeling was withdrawl, and what was bipo symptoms. Now that I'm a little further along, I realize that I'm feeling good. So we are going to monitor me and see where that goes. Thank you everyone for your responses.
